It's that time again, time to order new batteries and while I was browsing RTD I noticed an interesting little gadget called ^^this^^. I'm going to purchase some of the AW 20A 3000mAh's for their longevity, I'm always in the 8-12 amp range, and I think I'll order one of these little doo-dads too and see how it fits. I use Noalox and I guess I'll apply it both underneath and on the nub of the adapter. I wanted to mention this little thing here in case anyone else who's a staunch button top user but wants to try flat tops for higher amperage or mAh but doesn't want to have to adapt to a longer button throw. Can anyone think of any reason why this could be a bad idea outside of the length it would add?

Nice.. I've seen that before. Well it will be another piece for the energy to flow threw that may end up lowering the load voltage a tad but I'm sure one wouldnt notice it.

Another way would be to use a small magnet on the possitive end of the battery.

Looks like it's either brass or copper so it's prob better then the magnet but the magnet would be easier to use as it wouldn't fall off the battery when removed from the reo.

Try it out and let us know how it goes as I'm sure lots would be interested!

The "issue" with most adapters is the possibility they can slip sideways and cause a short. The one on RTD looks like a good fix for that problem, however, just my eyes maybe, but it looks like it's gonna add quite a bit to the overall length (thus, over-compressing the bottom safety spring). I'd be interested to hear what the fit is like, once you receive it.

+1 for adapters slipping out of place. I was thinking this might need to be held in place with a new battery wrap. But then would you noalox in between the batt and the adapter? And how often would you need to reapply?

The length is what concerns me as well because it does look taller than the button on a button top. It even looks like it might poke up into the firing pin opening leaving very little room between it and the firing pin. Going by looks I think that might be more of an issue than compressing the spring. I'll definitely post pics.

It looks like brass It should work fine there are no dimensions on the height it looks promising though . I still think it would be easier to just buy a aw battery

The batteries will be AW's but these AW's are flat tops, I believe the first flat tops AW has come out with. They have a 3000mAh rating which is why I want them. I do hope it's a brass nub, I'm still waiting to hear back from RTD.

The noalox issue was the first question that popped into my head when I saw the adapter. I think at first I'll dab it both under the nub and on the nub. It may take some experimenting to see how often it will need reapplied. As far as it being held in place I'll have to see if it moves around, especially with the noalox underneath. The firing pin may end up pushing it around.

Well I got the new AW 3000mAh and the adapter today and unfortunately it's a no go. Part of the issue is that the AW 3000 is the tiniest smidge taller than my 1600 button tops, and I mean by just the smallest smidge. Then when the added height of the adapter is placed on top of the 3000 the brass nub of the adapter sticks so far up into the firing pin opening that the distance between the firing pin and the adapter nub is almost non existent. With the firing button on my Grand in the locked position I can put just the slightest pressure on the firing button and the Grand will fire up while in the locked position. Not safe at all. And on top of this, the added height squashed my spring a bit more than I like. If you all want pics I can post them but I didn't see a need.

I think these AW 3000's are rewrapped LG HG2's so perhaps this adapter will work with other brands of flat tops that aren't so tall. If I knew of one that was decently priced and 15-20A I'd buy it to test this adapter. Or if someone else already owns shorter flat tops I'd mail you this adapter to try out.
