Did some testing myself with some old batteries. Fired up great!! No problems. Can't tell a difference in the fire button throw. It's the same. I even took the door off, and held the battery down a little bit so I could see how square the firing pin was landing on top. It's landing great on top of the magnet. Didn't notice any arching at all, but then again... I'm running a 1.22ohm coil. Cannot confirm at lower ohms.

Also, I added some Deoxit. This seemed to help (and of course made me feel better about having it there).

Magnets run fine with low resistance coils too. I've been running them on batteries for years.

A real benefit is that if your mod gets dirty and you DO get arcing, then you don't pit your batteries. Just clean the mod and all's well. If you ruin a magnet - who cares for 50c?

There was some concern that the magnet could come loose and short between battery and mod, but Reos are not made from steel so they are not magnetic and don't attract magnets.

I'd be a little more circumspect using a magnet on a battery top in a steel tube mod.

Just tested it with a quick .35ohm twisted 2.5mm coil 4 wrap of something I had in a cyclone afc.

Yuk! Haha

Anyways at first using magnet it did arch.. thrn I added some deoxit gold to the magnet and pressed the fire button prob over 20+ times in a dark room with the door off looking right at the contact and it was fine.. 0 arching.

I normally stay around 1ohm and did not have to add deoxit gold to the magnet but prob had some on the contact pin as always.

Just got in some magnets. Put one on a Sammy, applied a tiny dab of deoxit gold to the magnet, let it sit a minute, wiped off excess, put battery in REO. So far it's performing wonderfully, 0 arching - I will monitor the batts closely, but if this keeps up, holy mother of unflavored nic base...

Steam is a genius. THANK YOU! I have nothing but praise for AWs, but I love having my battery options expanded to include flat tops like LG HG2s in particular - that's what I'll mostly be running from now on, thanks to Steam and the gangstas of this thread which brought to us the REO door magnet.

Praise be to Yevon, the times are a changin' for squonkers :toast:
