Just completed a 2nd full round of flavor tasting.
I wanted to compare/update results from a year ago and got some new ones.

I started DIY 2 years ago for 2 main reasons:
1) I know what's in it - I avoid diketones.
2) Saving money!!

My favorite flavors:
-Blueberry Wild TFA
-Butter Pecan FW
-Ripe Strawberry TFA
-Caramel FA
-Butterscotch FA
-Vanilla Swirl TFA
-Sweet Cream CAP

Least favorite: Grape Candy TFA, DX Hazelnut TFA, Vanilla Bean Gelato TFA, DK tobacco TFA

Taste is extremely subjective.
Hope some might find this useful for a starting point or for comparision.

Please share your thoughts/favorite flavors!!

Here's a screenshot of my flavor spreadsheet: green=good / red=bad

I agree with it though. Some of my favs are on that list. TFA BB wild and FA billberry are great together. More realistic BB. TFA SB ripe and Cap sweet SB together. I personally dont worry so much about DAAP but thats personal preference. Good work, keep it up.

Yea - mixing 2 flavors together works great!
For Blueberry, I mix 10% Blueberry Wild TFA with 4% Blueberry Extra.
Strawberry = Strawberry Ripe 5% with Strawberry & Cream 5% for S&C recipe.
And I often use Vanilla Swirl TFA and Sweet Cream CAP in different % for vanillas.

Great List & Thanks For The Work !!!...I was looking to see if there was an entry for TFA Cheese Cake GCC and saw you made a note for Butyric Acid on the DX Hazelnut...The Cheese Cake has Butyric Acid and it's a flavor I dis-like quite a bit...A bit odd because it smells delicious ???...I use FW Hazelnut and FW Butter Pecan...Those are both standards in my Bakery World...Two others that I think are good solid flavors and very easy to use are TFA Banana Nut Bread & TFA English Toffee...Also when you say "dx'y" could you fill out the definition on what you mean by that ???...Your list has given me several additional flavors to try !!!

The notes 'Butyric Acid' and 'dx'y' are related, and refer to the TFA DX flavors. (=dx'y)
Keeping my flavor choices non-diketones often means using TFA DX or CAP V2 flavors.
TFA especially, often uses butyric acid in their DX flavors to eliminate diketones.
Unfortunately, it's a taste profile I dislike, and most of the flavors that use it, for me, are unusable.
You may be finding the same result from the Cheese Cake?

I use mostly TFA - great flavors and prices.
However, some flavor types are better elsewhere.
For example, I feel the FA carmel is by far the best.
And I LOVE the FW Butter Pecan!!

ETA: I haven't tried the FW Hazelnut - now on the list - thanks!
(I just got the FA hazelnut (Hazelgrove) - it's the best one yet, but not quite it)

Not the op, but i would guess by dx'y he means butyric acid, which was used to replace acetyl propyniol, for those who want to avoid diketones.

Btw @capthook , if you are avoiding diketones, you might want to double check FW Butter Pecan. That one is almost certainly not diketone free.

Hmm... I've triple checked FW Butter Pecan...
BullCityVapors and Wizard Labs shows it's clean.
Can't seem to find a list direct from Flavor West: Butter Pecan
Any direct FW info?
Hmm, i didn't even know FW has d/a/ap info. They didn't used to have the most stellar reputation as far as transparency. I went by my taste buds, and it tastes and feels diacetyly to me. I didn't even know you can make " butter " anything without diketones. I am intrigued.

Thanks For That...And I / We aren't alone in that dis-like (putting it mildly) of Butyric Acid...I spoke with a guy at ECX on a different matter and brought the subject up...He said it's all to common that he hears about it and that he dis-likes it as well...I found the FW ingredients list as well...Thanks for posting it...Lot'a work you did !!!

It is so odd though...I made 2 Cheese Cakes...One with Chocolate & Hazelnut the other with Almond & Amaretto and they both smell fantastic but are totally un-vapeable to me...Regards...Trig

Guess I don't know the full backstory with FW and whether the issues some had from a few years ago have been resolved, things like transparency, testing results, fructose etc.
At least they offer DAAP info.
Is it reliable? For me, seems crazy it wouldn't be.
At least the Butter Pecan is really the only FW I use. o_O

Hehe! So good to see you! My favorite cap'n. ;)

Your thread caught my eye because I'm seriously considering DIY--after all those years! I ordered a bunch of flavors from BCF, mostly FA, and can't wait to start mixing. Lord help me. I'm starting with FA Cucumber and Black Pepper!
