I'm totally new to RBA/RDA's, and I've got an hcigar Hammer on the way with some 10.5A 18350's. For the last year I've been using Protanks rewicked with cotton on my Provari mini, which i'll still be using while out and about. Looking to get some more flavor around the house.

The amount of choices are bewildering. My concerns are flavor, ease of build/maintenance, and looks on the Hammer (longer atomizers look better IMO), in that order. I'm trying to stay under $50.

I've looked at the flash-e, kayfun 3.1, Taifun, Kraken, and Fogger V4. I plan on running a tensioned micro-coil at around .7ohms, or whatever the atty runs best at. I'm leaning toward the flash-e ATM...

Please recommend me something, and tell me why that would suite my needs better than others. Also let me know which clone is the best (i.e., hcigar Kayfun or whatevs).

Many thanks to all the pros out there!

I don't think you'll find a device that is easier to build than a Kayfun/Russian. However those are typically used with a single coil. They produce a superb flavor. I would not go with a Russian 91, save a little money, and buy an EHpro kayfun if you decide on a kayfun.

i prefer the kayfun 3.1 to the KFL+, and the 3.1 is probably the longest of all the devices. The 3.1 has a bottom chamber to collect leaked juice that can come in handy/be nice to have.

Kayfun 3.1 Clone by EHPRO - Eciggity

or the KFL+ with the factory widened air hole, which is a nice improvement.

Kayfun Lite Plus by EHPRO (Larger Airflow Hole) - Eciggity

And I'll always vouch for EHPRO when it comes to clones, especially their kayfuns. On all of my Kayfun devices I have the airflow control screw completely removed. And the draw is still relatively tight.

An Aqua RBA would be my choice, they run great with multiple coils and are designed to as the Kayfun isn't. There are youtube tutorial videos on drilling out Aquas to really open up airflow, a well drilled Aqua will vape fantastically.

well an RDA is going to give the best vape. Many models out at this point and more every day. I myself like the sub ohm, and if you are ok with getting a solid Mech mod, then in my personal opinion, I would say your going to get the best vapor. I would avoid mech mods that don't have a good conductive material used. an example of a lower end mod would be the K-100 and 101. I just upgraded from the K101 to a Nemesis and you can really tell the difference in the vape. my Nemisis is a clone, but its a full copper build, with silver plated connections. (silver is the best conductor, over gold and copper). the K 100 uses stainless steel, a much less conductive material.
after all that
the RBA itself, I use the Patriot clone as my starter and a Igo W. the problem with these is there is not adjustable Airflow. but if your ok with drilling and setting a size to work for you. otherwise I would recommend the castle RDA, Cat RDA, and I believe the Trident V2 has adjustable airflow, but I don't know many people around here that use them. the First two are a little pricy. I will also say, some clones are great, and I have heard some function better than there originals. The Russian 91% for example is a Kayfun Lite Clone, but its actually better in my opinion for the adjustable airflow. ( these are RBA or RTA, not dripping atomizers)
I also hear that the allen Key systems are better that the Philips 00 systems, I guess they don't come loose like the Phillips do.

Awesome, I was not aware of the KF-KFL differences, the 3.1 surely sounds better to me than the Lite.

I meant to say single coil, I edited the OP to clear that up.

Also, I've read the Aquas arent exactly noob friendly...

Anyone else?

no more on its side than on a regular mod. It just seems however that this device (the form factor really) calls for tanks and drip tips to make some kind of wacky steampunk Gandalf pipe!

I love sitting there and puffing away on this thing. Just so cool.

Personally now that I think more about it you should get a kayfun lite plus or Russian clone with a long drip tip of your choosing. Browse fasttech drip tips. There's a bunch.

My thoughts exactly! I plan on having pieces of the mod/atty copper plated :)

Long bent drip tip is already on the way along with the Hammer, 101 had the tip i was looking for!

Why KFL and not 3.1? The drip tip issue? I've been reading and apparently the HCigar 3.1 has an adapter to use any tip. The Ehpro from Madvapes says it come with adapter as well.

Would I really be missing out by getting the HCigar 3.1 instead of the Ehpro? It'd save me a few bucks as well....

Also, any chance you could post a pic of your flash-e on your hammer?

I own multiple kayfun devices including a russian, including a 3.1, including a KFL+ with a larger airhole from the factory. The HCIGAR and EHPRO will both make good kayfun 3.1 clones... I personally have always had great luck with EHPRO products and therefore would recommend the EHPRO kayfun 3.1. You said you like a little more length, the kayfun 3.1 is longer than the KFL+. The 3.1 also comes with a bottom cap that collects leaked juice, this is useful. And comparing my ehpro kayfun 3.1 to my KFL+ (the KFL+ with the larger factory airholes), the kayfun 3.1 has better airflow by far. So my vote goes to the EHPRO kayfun 3.1.

Also my KFL+ does not have an adjustable 510 center pin, the 3.1 does

OK, Kayfun 3.1 is definitely in the lead. What about the Kraken (i've a severe octopus fetish lol)? Are genny style atties mostly considered yesterdays news, and subpar compared to kayfuns?

Also, Taifun vs Kayfun 3.1?

Also, just so you know, the Russian is a kayfun 3.1. The russian 91 is KFL+.

As for the Taifun, it is more difficult to build and more difficult to get used to, learning what builds work and which dont. The Kafun wins here by a long shot, as far as ease of use and ease of build.

The taifun doesn't have to have the juice emptied if you want to recoil (If I recall correctly). The kayfun on theo ther hand, has to be drained of liquid before you can get to the deck and recoil rewick.

Flavor wise, they are about equal. As far as vapor production, the kayfun beats the taifun. Overall, hands down, the kayfun is a better device. Just my thoughts. You can watch video review comparisons if you'd like, from what i've seen in the vaping community the kayfun is preferred when compared to the taifun.

The russian (kayfun 3.1) http://www.evcigarettes.com/the-russian-rebuildable-atomizer/
$130

Ehpro Kayfun 3.1 (this model worked great for me)
http://www.madvapes.com/ehpro-kayfun-3-1.html
$50

kraken is a good genesis style device. It can run a dual coil build fairly well, whereas the kayfun models are best used with a single coil. And I've used a Kraken, they are not bad devices, but I would still go with a kayfun device. I run my Kayfuns (including the 3.1) on my mech, and single sub ohm microcoils work great and produce a lot of vapor and flavor. But even a decent build at lets say 1.5 ohms will work great. Only tricky part with kayfuns is getting the wicking right. 90% of the people I see posting about problems with their kayfun style devices, are not wicking correctly. Now I'll let others chime in.

Those would be my exact recommendations and in that exact order. Out of all my rba's the Flashi remains my favorite, for flavor, ease of build, and ease of fill. One damn fine rba. Have the Authentic, loved it so much bought the Fasttech clone and the EHpro clone. FT was great, EHpro came with the dripper cap. Love this thing. Second choice the Kayfun or full Russian vape damn nice too. Get the one that fancies your interest most first, then once mastered get the next one on the list. No one can have just one rba after all. Least not once hooked. lmao.

Good luck have fun!

Vape long and Prosper!!!
