every recipe, every premium liquid I try tastes too dull. I don't vape nicotine, and only like mtl vaping. Should I attempt doubling flavor percentages in recipes? Even my boyfriend and mother can't distinguish the tastes in my nautilus mini 1.6 ohm at 8-11 watts. I've only made popular recipes so far like bronut, sugar cookies and cream, boss reserve clone, raspberry custard, strawberry fog, strawberry shortcake bar, fresh strawberry ( diy eliquid recipes yt channel ) ... also tried about 100 juices , from vendors like viper vapor, good ejuice, virgin vapor, Canada ejuice, canvape, krankberry etc.. my boyfriend and mother bo agree the flavourings taste dull. They tried bronut and said, maybe it's chocolate.. they tried a dinner lady and said maybe a pie .. they didn't even distinguish the lemon.. boss reserve just tastes like something a little sweet.. I've read when you add too much flavorig you can dull flavours so what should I do?

What exactly are you mixing, and are you allowing it to steep first? Steeping is a big part of the process, depending what flavors you are using. Something may taste good for a day or two, then the flavor may drop away almost completely as it steeps.

It's true overflavoring can dull DIY, what percentages are you mixing at? Etc.

DIY my own e-liquids is probably the toughest endeavor I've undertaken since I began vaping. There's a LOT of "trial and error" and "hit or miss" involved. Out of a dozen recipes that I've attempted, maybe only 3 or 4 have been good enough for me to vape. I have a Pineapple Upside Down cake recipe that is just "OK" in my opinion, but my son and future son-in-law absolutely love it.

Assuming you are mixing your recipes correctly and allowing them to steep (mature is probably a more appropriate word), I believe a lot depends upon the recipes chosen and the flavoring agents that you are using. For example, some flavor manufacturers make a better "candy" flavored fruit than a "real fruit" flavor.

When I shop for flavoring agents, I use Bull City Vapor. There's a comment section on the site where experienced DIY'ers will say this particular manufacturer makes a orange flavor that's better for a candy orange flavor, while another manufacturer makes a flavor that tastes more like the orange fruit.

I'm not sure if that helps you much, but that is what my current experience has shown me.

Since everything tastes muted, maybe it’s your tank. In my experience, Kangers are not big flavor machines. Have you tried other brands?

Other than that, I agree with previous replies. Research and trial and error should get you better results in time.

I don’t have great taste buds and I have to work to get a decent flavor from my juices. I like to find similar flavors to layer, like two or three brands of strawberry, and other flavors to accentuate, like a blueberry with a strawberry, and other add ins, like right now, loving the coconut added to just about anything.

I'm mixing the flavours the recipes call for

Boss reserve clone by folk art is milk and honey, hazelnut, biscuit, small amount of super sweet and azetyl 5%. All of these recipes are top rated recipes on Reddit diy and most popular on alltheflavors.com .

Yeah I've researched every flavor before purchasing them. Reddit ejuice diy has a huge list of flavor notes. It's just I like these flavours but they aren't tasty enough. And if I just add over 1 percent sweetener, then it tastes artificial.

Just a thought. Try something with a very strong taste, like Peppermint or Menthol. You might not like it but you should definitely taste it. If that tasted muted then you would definitely need to look at your gear. For me a strong mint or menthol flavor seems to clean up my palate as well, so afterwards I can taste other flavors better.

Nautilus is aspire tank, but I've tried kanger tanks as well, and small tanks for pen style vaping. For my strawberry I use three strawberries and abit of apple. Strawberry ripe at 5%, sweet straw cap at 5% red touch at 4% and fa Fuji apple at 1 percent. It's the only flavor I can taste more then my others right now.

This reminds me of a customer who only vaped cinnamon because that was the only flavor he could taste. Cinnamon, mint, and menthol are probably the strongest flavors available.

I can definitely taste mint. Lol. I think it's my gear if my boyfriend and mom can't taste it well either. I tried cinnamin once and got turned off from vaping for three days . Hated it lol.

Lets just take this one step at a time. The naut is fine. Its possible that most of the juices you have tried were really made for subohming since almost all juice is max VG now. In that tank I would go more toward a 50/50 blend. If you notice all the recipes you posted are made for 70% VG or more. Not exactly great for that type of tank. Try something like grack juice at 50/50 and see if that helps. Its a pretty bright flavor profile but needs to be mixed at 50/50 for your application

That makes sense! I've been doing some recipes at 60/40 for my mig cig tanks but the flavor is always dull in them also.

Have you recently quit smoking? It takes quite a while for your tastebuds to come around. It can take quite a few months. When I switched about the only juice I could taste was 8% tfa keylime and 2% menthol and Im not a menthol person.

Nope I quit smoking almost 9 years ago. I quit using the patch. I still crave a cigarette some days, and have a vape. I also love vaping while being social :) some times I vape for awhile, then quit, because the flavours are just not tasty enough. So far, diy has been better then premium flavours in my opinion.

I will say, those cravings will always be there but not listening to them gets easier. I would try the 50/50 mix on some bright profiles. Most of the recipes on that particular site work better for high wattage sub-ohm stuff but are pretty easy to adapt for your style. Theres a few on there I bump of the levels 1-2%. I dont have the taste most of those mixers have. Premium doesnt mean better, just more expensive and a lot of sweetner. Some over 5%

Yeah I wonder if I can save my current mixes , by mixing say 70/30 pg / vg to make them 50/50 vg/pg. Is there any reason people dont vape higher pg percentages like 100% pg ?

No reason why that wouldn't work. Calculations might be a little tricky though.

Before my time but I heard juices were all PG early on. VG slowly crept in, maybe because it produces better clouds. And then tanks started being designed for lots of VG. PG does hit your throat harder.

I started with all VG. I slowly started putting PG in it. Doing 50/50 now. They say taste comes through better with PG, the main thing I noticed was the tanks wicked better.
