I was wanting to do the Fluval mod to my 510 cart. I bought the Fluval Foam by mistake not the polishing cloth. Well I looked at, it porous, almost like a sponge. Thought I'd give it a try. It really works good almost like a controlled drip with a nice pull. After a day of using this mod no noticeable damage to the atty. Has anyone tried this mod?
I use a variation on that with foam and I like it. I don't use the Fluval foam but I'd use it over marineland foam if it were locally available. I use it in conjunction with the original straw mod:

I use the Johnson & Johnson safety swab shafts cut 11/16ths for the 510 cart so they are 1/16th from the top edge of the cart (which is 3/4 inch deep). I cut diagonals on both top and bottom - the one on top just keeps it off the bridge a bit better and put it along the rounded edge furthest away from the bridge.
With the foam, I'm only using a plug - 1/4 in deep and cut oversized by say, 30% of both widths of the top of the cart - the extra width acts as a spring against the inside walls of the cart so that it doesn't drop down - the bridge will put it in it's 'proper' place. So all that exists in the bottom of the cart is juice and the straw along the outside wall of the cart. I don't remove the plug to fill, like many plug mods and the straw helps to allow filling with the mod in place. I'm getting no leaks and longer lasting refills.
The material in the foam, polishing pads, PTB and oem filler is all PET (polyester) and the foam top because of it's texture is much less likely to get grabbed by a spur of metal mesh on the bridge - in fact, I've never (so far) had the bridge 'grab' the foam plug like can happen with the thinner fibers of oem filler or even the polishing pads, and even with PTB.
There are many cart mods out there, and I'm just relaying how
I use the foam or similar foam that you use. It's not _the_ answer for everyone, but it is _an_ answer for me and evidently you. I also have some ecigs with the PTB 'folded mod' and still have some oem filler with straw mods that happen to have a good placement to where the bridge isn't grabbing them... although I don't get as much refill with either of them as I do with the foam plug with the airflow straw (not the 'platform straw') mod.
