Fluval poly fish tank filter pads work awesome!

I saw someone post about these on here before, so I decided to pick up a pack. I got these:

Fluval Polyester Pads from Hagen - Filter Media - Fish - PetSmart

Seems to hold e-liquid just like the stock cartridge material does, and there's enough in that one box to last for months. Doesn't taste any different and it's easy to cut to fit your carts!

Some of you might also be interesed in the polyester batting sold in the craft dept at walmart. I have used both and found the batting to be more pliable, making it a bit easier to use. Just another option.

I use the fluval, It's good stuff. The worry with polyester wool is that some contains fibreglass! But not this stuff, it's about as safe as it gets and works out economical. Get it from Pets At Home in the UK.

There's no fiberglass in the batting as it's used to make kids and animal toys.

I'm going to give this a go since I'm finding that the washed cores don't wick as well as "virgin" ones and I really grudge paying ~35p per cart for something that must cost about 2p to make [I never used to mind 30p a cigarette mind you; ironic eh?]. Do you rinse out the fluval before using it or just cut and stuff (so to speak)?

I wash it, not sure if you have to. I think you do to use it in a fish tank, so I figured that whats good for goldfish is good for me

Yeah! I just got mine yesterday and it was on sale. Surprisingly, right next to the Fluval was 100% Polyester so I picked that up too. (I didn't see anything about it being treated with flame ......ant and figured it wouldn't be on there if its going in a fish tank). I tried both last night with great results and would recommend either one. Lu is correct that the polyester is more pliable.

I think the biggest thing I noticed is the performance difference between actually removing the stuffing and refilling vs just topping off a cart. Refilling wins hands down for me because the cart lasts so much longer. I'm just going to make a batch of carts and not mess with dripping juice throughout the day.

I've gone through so much trial and error since I started vaping that I think I've finally figured out my likes/dislikes and have a system in place. It'll be nice to get into the money saving phase

100% Polyester Batting is much more absorbent and pliable, not to mention you get 114cm x 152 cm for about 2.50usd.
I get mine from Michaels btw.

I thought so too Ike. The fluval was more "formed" whereas the batting was more "loose"...just easier to maneuver with shaping and actually, on how much you wanted to put in. Of course, I just cut some off and jam it in there til it looks good. Might be a better way to do it....lol

I use the poly-fil batting, it's kinda a pain to stuff as it's slippery, but it seems to wick much better than the stuffing the carts came with.

The polyester batting is much cheaper and works about the same, should be a easy decision.

I make up enough for a week at a time for hubby & I. These little boxes hold a bunch of filled carts Amazon.com: ice breakers restore (and the candy is SOOOOO good!)

He got 5 of them (at the grocery store) and spray painted them different colors (After I put the candy in a bottle) for each of our favorite flavors and I keep the filled carts in a cabinet that the dogs can't open. He can just grab a few carts when he's getting ready for work. Keeps him from dripping and driving.

If you can find an hour or so one night a week to fill them, you're all set.

I'm still using the stock filler material. I have yet to throw any away because it washes clean with water and is as good as new. I use the straw mod on my 510 and life is good. I've tried all of the different substitute filler material and there is no perfect substance out there. They all have issues. What I have found that helps is when I install the straw I cut out some of the filler so that it leaves room for adding the straw but I remove just a little extra to make the filler fit loosely. They wick much better than stock.

I simply top off the carts during the day. WHen it looks like it is getting a crust on top I remove it and wash the filler real well with water and just reinsert it and it's back to new again.

You can just cut Fluval right to size in perfect strips for the 510 that's part of the beauty of it. I have been telling anyone who would listen that it was perfect filler material. It may have been one of my post talking about it that you saw, lol!

I don't wash it or see a need to, it's nothing more than a water filter for aquariums and if it's clean enough to put in an aquarium with fish in it then it's plenty safe for enough for me considering how fragile fish usually are.

At $6.99 for a 4 pack of pads that will last forever and a day even if you use clean strips each time it would take you some time to go through this box. You don't want stuff that is too absorbent because then it won't let all the liquid wick out. This is why I prefer the Fluval over the polyester from Walmart. The Fluval is also just a matter of cutting to the right width and length and literally slide it in the 510 like a hand in a glove.

That's all fine and dandy, but have you tried the blue foam yet?
