so I saw this post:
Don't put food coloring in your eliquid. Food coloring is not approved or tested for inhalation, we havent a clue as to what the effects may be of inhaling food dye over a long time or even short. We should be limiting the chemical exposure in our juices, not adding to it just for cosmetics.
Look at Diacetyl (sp) for instance, it's GRAS to eat as a flavoring in foods but inhaling it is dangerous in certain heavy exposures.

W H A T ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

No ejuice, PG, VG or Liquid Nic has been approved for Inhaling !

I have used food grade coloring in my juices for years with no Ill effects
drop colors in 60ml of VG until you get the color you want and then mix that to your juice .

really ppl, food coloring cannot be any worse than whats in a cigarette and we ALL smoked em for years

I am one that would not add unneeded chemicals to anything that is not needed. I would never buy green beer on St. Patrick's Day either. That's the main reason I started mixing my own juice so I know what is in my ejuice. Is vaping like taking vitamins? No - I knew that going into vaping two years ago. But I do want it to be as safe as I can make it. CHEERS!

I'm going to agree with @wheelie on this one. Vaping, to me, is about harm reduction, and that means adding nothing more than is needed. I mix my own and just don't see any need to add coloring... I would be worried about the dye's. That may just be me though. Plus, the natural golden amber glow of a well-steeped vanilla custard is beautiful enough.

I'll have to third wheelie on this one. I really see no need to add color to juice. I haven't made my own juice 100% yet, the farthest I've gotten so far is to add a flavor or two to flavorless juice, but flavor and 'effect' are more important to me than color.

You don't have the slightest clue as to what is in food coloring. You have absolutely no idea if it's safe to inhale. And just because you have had "no ill effects" YET, that does not mean you won't start developing them tomorrow.

The comment about Diacetyl is spot on. It's an artificial butter flavoring used in all sorts of food and even used in some ecig juices, but it's very hazardous to inhale and over time produces a condition known as "popcorn lung" or bronchiolitis obliterans which is permanent scarring of your lung tissue. You could vape it for years without feeling any ill effects, but eventually you will and once you do you'll never get better.

There is absolutely no reason to add unnecessary and untested ingredients to your ecig.

I'm "meh" on the issue. I vape Pluid as my ADV for over a year now, and we all know what that looks like.

I even cloned a VERY close (almost spot on) version of it and you bet I add the food coloring. Until I see a study, I'll keep doing it and vaping it.

I really have no opinion on the matter...food coloring...no food coloring...diacetyl...no diacetyl...makes no difference to me as long as its good. I could probably vape straight diacetyl and it would probably be healthier than cigarettes. However... I do like to see juice that is as clear as water. Makes me feel the juice is more pure imo. DIY I won't add it if its not necessary.

Yeah it msy be safer than smoking to vape food coloring and it may not. All my juices that I make are colorless so far. I am out to reduce my risks with vaping.

As a seasoned vaper and one who also mixes a large amount of his own juices, I try to limit the amount of unnecessary compounds in my e-liquid. As such I try to avoid food coloring. That being said, I have no opinion as to whether or not food colorings are harmful or not. I'll leave that for further study. I just personally don't add coloring to my e-liquids (my diy stuff) and avoid buying juices with food coloring (typically those would be your blues and greens--brown, amber, red, and yellows sometimes occur naturally due to the oxidization of nicotine, or a reaction between the nic and the flavors)
