Andrea I agree once an addict always an addict. But I do believe in the saying recovering addict Not a day goes by I don't think about it But its getting easier to dismiss as I find new ventures in my life. I have many hobbies. I build Micro 1/72 scale RC planes, I build the electronics do the programming and get the tiny 6" wingspan plane flying under RC control. I also race RC trucks. I have a Machine shop in my garage and a class III weapons permit so I make parts for my firearms, And I love shooting. I hunt, Fish, Camp, Hike and ride my Harley to far away destinations. I have the need something to do with my mind and hands thing covered. lol I just need to get my body to accept the fact I can live without things that aren't good for me. You had to give up drinking so you know exactly what I'm talking about.
I long read, but very informative about nicotine.
The Great Nicotine Myth
Thanks for this post epicdoom. I've been smoking analogs for 44 years...started around 1 pad, eventually over the years increased to 2, now less than one with cutting down and trying the disposable Blu e-cig, hoping I can transition over 100%. Got the go ahead from Dr the other day too, which was great. I have the Blu kit with cartridges, but haven't used it yet. Also have a eGo kit my sis sent me.
A couple weeks ago on a Friday night I thought to heck with this...we are going out and I'm going to use the e-cig. I coughed and got so congested!! I don't want to get MORE congested...I have a chronic cough the way it is! I think my Dr tried scaring me into quitting two visits ago by saying I had COPD. This last visit I said "how bad is the COPD?" and she said it was minor and showed me xray. I wondered why if I had COPD she wasn't giving me anything to treat it!
I don't know what to do. The other night I decided to try again...not inhaling because of coughing so much. I just took in mouth and blew out nose to get nicotine. I ended up with a headache in sinus's. I'm really not looking for excuses not to quit.....I want to do this. But I want something that doesn't make me feel worse! I think I can handle the cravings...and the letting go of analog (I prefer the taste of Blu e-cig over analogs!!) but having headaches, etc., then it makes me a little nervous that this won't work for me :-(.
I"m not giving up yet. I'm going to try the eGo and 50/50 juice. Hopefully I can find something I can actually inhale!! Thanks for your beginners hints!
I had a heck of a time making any[/]progress until I was willing to forgo that first cigarette of the day.

Nearly 4 years without a cig for me. My doc says vaping is soooo much better for me. No desire to give up nicotine personally, it keeps me from strangling idiots![]()
Very good advice all around.
I did have vapours tongue for awhile, but like the suggestion of changing flavours to help.
WTA seems to help me put the Ecig down, was amazed I watched an hour and half of TV and did not want a smoke or vape.
$5 for a pack of smokes? It is $11 in Edmonton!
The point of written communication is to be understood. That's what punctuation marks are for, to make meaning clear.
Do I plan to vape the rest of my life? Yep, if it keep me from smoking or wanting to smoke, I'll vape till I'm blue in the face -- literally.
I loved smoking. I didn't want to quit at all. However, I have asthma, and I watched my dad die of lung cancer, so I knew that, like it or not, I had to give up cigarettes. Now I have, and I vape instead, and I don't even want to smoke, because I vape. Nicotine isn't going to kill me or significantly shorten my life, but it might just protect me from senile dementia (one of my grandmothers) or alzheimers (the other grandmother). Nicotine is not that dangerous, at low levels, much as caffeine is not terribly dangerous at low levels.
There is no "stigma" in using a particular drug for whatever good it may bring you -- the good that vaping brings me is that I don't have to withdraw *completely* from nicotine, though I certainly have cut down a great deal, even though, yes, I vape all the time, as much as I like. My asthma is dramatically improved in just 7 weeks, even though I can vape constantly, instead of running outdoors every half hour to suck down a ...., so no, it's not hurting me at all. I suffer from various physical symptoms that tell me very clearly that all this vaping is still only giving me maybe 1/2-2/3 of the nicotine I formerly received from cigarettes.
And last of all... I don't blame you for being hostile, and I would like to apologize for my rather intemperate attitude in my post to you; I wasn't very long out of bed, and after all this time of being online, I should know better than to try and communicate via any media when I am not yet fully awake, as I am not yet fully *human* in that state. I am very sorry for being such a beeyotch instead of actually *communicating* !!
However I do disagree with your approach; sure we all want to quit smoking cigarettes, they're lethal, but vapor is *harm reduction*, it may not be "100% safe" but it beats the living daylights out of smoking tobacco, and at low levels, may not be even as harmful as, say, a cup of brewed coffee -- I can't drink an entire cup of brewed coffee without suffering nausea, ........, stomach pain, and the "twitches" -- sounds a lot like nicotine OD, doesn't it? That's why I vape only between 6mg and 9mg, any more than that gives me nausea, ........, stomach pain, and the "twitches". But as much and as long as I need to vape in order to never crave cigarettes again, that's how much and how long I will vape. I am an addict by nature, a 21+ yr recovering alcoholic, and I know quite intimately that taking away the substance does not remove the addiction; it's still there, just waiting for "a momentary lapse of reason" if I may quote Pink Floyd. The only thing I'd have to do to become a smoker again, is stop vaping. The only thing I have to do to bring on a massive craving for a cigarette is go too long without vaping, and those cravings take a while to ease, since vapor is so much more slowly absorbed than smoke ever was.
But I surely did not mean to be so hostile about it. Maybe I was still in my early morning craving phase; jonesing for nicotine in the morning is every bit as bad as jonesing for that first cup of [coffee, tea, etc].
