Hello, again! So I do try to help out the new folks struggling to make the transition off of analogs, and I'm sure most of you do, as well. For those for whom, say, an ego twist is not quite doing the trick, I want to jump in a say, "get a Reo!!" Now, these do cost a pretty penny, so I bite my lip. I'm wondering, at what point do you all chime in with "Reo"? Maybe I am busying myself, a bit, here because my glorious VVG won't be here 'til tomorrow;), but I really do ponder about this!

Hi Becky :)
My 2 pennies worth:
I find it's always good to qualify your audience....find out what they're comfortable spending before jumping in with the REO. Some folks just can't get past the cost. If I were to see someone who said..."I don't care what it costs, I need the best" then sure, mention the REO. Most folks are trying to ease into the idea of vaping replacing smoking so it may fall on deaf ears. The fear of spending their cigarette money on something that they aren't confident will work, then not having smoke funds when they "fail" is a huge hurtle for them to get over. There are others who get grumpy at the mention of a device that has a fan base....Like we're asking folks to drink our own special blend of kool-aid. Honestly, I don't care what a person uses as long as it works for them and I wish some folks would keep that in mind when helping the noobs out. What works for some won't necessarily work for others...so it's always hard to steer a person in one direction or another. and yes, Absolutely, do help the noobs out with vaping advise. There is so much information for them to sort through, it's kinda spooky. The biggest priority for me if I could post in the new members area would be to help them get through the beginning stages of vaping.

Hope this helps.

As much as I know a REO is the best mod out there, period, not all (actually, few) newbies are ready for a REO. What I do is really try to pay attention to the questions the person is asking, and take my cues from that. Many times you can tell that 1) money is a big consideration (at which time I don't suggest a REO); and many times I can tell that the form factor is important (if they're using a KR-808 and wondering if they'd like something BIG like an eGo) and I don't mention REO. I really just try to pay attention. I just hate smart-alecs who cruise the Newbie Forum--hit-and-run fashion--spouting "Get a Provari" or get a whatever.

If you really take the time to read the whole question/thread and see where the person is, what he/she's missing or looking for, and what stage of the whole process they're in, you can usually pick up on whether or not to mention a REO. It just comes off (to me) as arrogant and callous if you know that the person is not in a place (yet) where he/she could appreciate a REO, or even want one, to put it out there. It feels like bragging.

If I'm in the advanced pv forum, on the other hand, and someone says he's been vaping for XX months and is tired of charging batteries/changing cartos/dripping, etc., then I certainly discuss what I have and why I love it.
Hope this helps. It's just my opinion.....not necessarily as spokesperson for this whole forum. LOL

Becky, I just give them my experience and how I happened to make the right choice in getting a REO. I understand that the price of the REO and everything that is needed is prohibitive to some. It really was a tough thing for me to do, take that leap of faith and just get one.

A lot of people call us fan boys because we are so into the REO way of vaping. Let them say what they will. I just know I am totally happy with mine and have no need to look further.

Like Kay said, point them to this forum and let them ask questions and read what all of us have to say!

Sometimes a PM to a person works well. It can get a conversation started and take away those who just want to disagree.

Very well said, Lisa.... please remove my post...and I'm serious...I kinda forgot how I started out..with the pencil style... and how much more Reos cost compared to smaller, less well-made devices and how anxious I was, too, about spending so much money for only one vaping devise, as apposed to a few different ones for the same price, if it didn't work for me.

Of course it did:laugh:, with lots of guidance from the Reonauts in the beginning...and you know who you are if you read this ( Lisa...Karen):D

Kay I think your comment belongs here. If we are talking to someone just starting out then for sure we will try to help them the best we can. If they want to know what we think then we should tell them.

I think we know when to give our opinion and when to suggest other PV's that might work for them. I never push a REO to someone just starting. But I do tell them that they were my second PV and I am glad I found them.

I too, find it hard to remember all the little things from "way back then"...and sometimes I don't feel like I'm the best person to offer advise because only one thing has worked for me and I consider myself a bit of a hard case.

I use to do it all the time and have been critized for it. I would usually explain how I started with the cheapest stick e-cig then to a XL then progression to more and better mods (plus the $$ envolved) till I got a REO. Noobs should know a starter kit isn't the only way to go.

i remember when i first started vaping.....

lol. i think everyone should start with a Reo.

just saying...

You are one of the few that can wrap their head around the device, its form factor, and proformance. I spent a lot of time reading about reos and almost got a reo as my first mod. But I was still in the a need a cig alike phase, who couldn't as a girl handle running around with a big box in my hand even though everyone posted its not that big.

I don't feel that we're crazy fan boys/girls. We found something we all love, and we don't try and shove it down people's throats. I have other devices, what I do know is my reo is always going to work and be there for me. It's why I'm still not smoking along with the reo family here.

Sometimes even if folks aren't money-shy, dumping a boatload of bucks on something they aren't even sure they'll like can be a consideration. I went from a 510 basic stick, to an inexpensive bottom feeder just to see if I'd like a box. Used it for a few months, loved it and wanted something more durable. So then I bought a REO. I didn't do much mod-hopping.

Sometimes steps are necessary. But I always caution people that REOs are not cheap, not money-wise or quality-wise. But it's what I found I prefer and there are many choices available at many price-points that may be suitable for a new person just learning.

For me, I just sit back and watch them fondle with there tanks, Carto's and Ego's or whatever there using, mean while Gracefully keep Squanking and blowing plumes of thick tasty vapor and say nothing at all, they come around pretty quickly and say whats that your using  I slowly blunder out the words Reosmods.com and scurrying off they go to there computer mighty quickly

I think many visualize the Reo as a big box. When I received mine I was surprised how compact it really is. Almost went with the mini, glad I didn't. If someone already knows they enjoy vaping I will be the first to recommend the Reo. Heck, most are recommending lesser mods like Vamos and Provaris. I see no problem with showing someone the light.

I stuck my toe in to bottom feeders with a Boge. If I would have considered the probability of loveing the Reo once tried along with the resale value, I would have concluded that the Reo was the most cost effective way to go. It is kind of funny that the more a person is strapped for money, the more that is exploited and ends up costing them more. I see nothing wrong with recommending a Reo to a first time user. It will improve their chances of quitting the cigs. It would be best if a live person was available to get them past the initial learning curve. But, it isn't absolutely necessary.

Here is one other thing to consider. I wouldn't have tried a bottom feeder as soon if I hadn't seen all of those post in the beginner's section say "Get a Reo, you will never look back!".
