I don't remember the exact number of users but I do remember things getting slow enough for me to check user activity. If it's growing pains, this is good !
EDIT: I know it wasn't my connection but on the other hand there's nearly 1300 on now and it's running ok.
It seems to be running better for me today Lis! That's a +.to tell the true since the last upgrade the forum is running much better
Not to derail the thread but MSE is nearly useless as an AV scanner. Not sure where you get your info from but you should check out av-comparatives and av-test websites for accurate AV info.I run a simple virus and malware setup combined with Adblock Plus on Firefox 10. Although there are times when the board is slow, it's not slow all the time and at it's worst (during prime time) it's still fast enough. I can expect 5 to 10 seconds waiting for a page to update sometimes. Then there are times when only a second or two is experienced.
Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes (the $24.95 lifetime paid version with real time protection) keep me clean and free of threats. I frequently get little messages in my taskbar that Malwarebytes blocked a re-direct to a rogue web site, not from ECF, but in the normal range of browsing in a particular day.
You might want to run Windows Defender to check for nasties. You can open it from the start icon by typing defender in the search box at the start button. I'd also recommend downloading Malwarebytes and running a scan on your computer ... that's free. Microsoft Security essentials is also free and heartily recommended by those who test antivirus software. Even if those don't find anything, at least you'll know that your computer is clean and you can concentrate on other reasons, like your ISP.
On the topic. I experienced the same issues Whiskey had on that same night. I have/had no troubles at other sites using the same forum software. I admin 2 different vBulletin boards (one the same server as ECF) and neither of those had issues that night. I use Firefox 11 with minimal add ons. 50mbps connection. Latest of all drivers.
I was getting 504 gateway errors that night.By same issue, you mean the "forum too busy" meesage? Was it only that night? If it ever happens again I would like a screen shot.
As far as I know there is no other vBulletin boards on the same server as ECF. I assume you mean a server with similar specifications? Anyways, that message would be more largely related to how many users are logged on compared to server capacity. How many users are typically connected to the 2 different servers you are referring to?
Having noticed being on here the same time Ces is on...
1) She uses different browser
2) She goes to the same threads I do, we were both on them at the same time.
We both noticed the lag got better just now within minutes of each other
Therefore, It wasn't anything to do with our computers & I believe it is ECF's server that is causing the lag.
So all these tests & fixes & scans IMO, are pointless, other than being a waste of time and effort to get to the bottom of this problem.
