So I am always trying to find new ways to do things, and I fiddle with things a lot. That being said, I have tired the boil method, the overnight soak in vodka/ water/ vinegar/H3O etc etc to clean my cartos. So far to date what I have found to work the best, stay with me...is soaking them for a few days of pure PG. I let some old catos that were not hitting well soak in a shot glass full of PG for a few days. I changed it out twice once the PG started to turn a brownish color and blew the old stuff out when I added new PG. Then blew them out hard, refilled them with some juice with a syringe and almost as good as new. I did not taste any residual flavors. The upsides to this as I see it, is no waiting for them to dry, because they were soaking in PG. Just though I'd though this out there. I dont normally use reused cartos, but I save them in case I run out and the mail is slow. I dont like the boil method b/c for whatever reason they never hit the same once they are boiled, and other soaking methods you still have to let them dry after. IMO the only way that I could see an improvement on this is if you used PG in an ultra sonic cleaner to make it work "faster" I dont know, this seems to work for me. YMMV.
