This is what some have bought at the Tractor Supply stores we have all over down here. No one has assumed any added danger from using it. I'd use it .. and probably will buy some before long. Sure wish I could find a smaller amount, though. A galllon? I won't live that long! And I have no cow's teats needing a rubdown (which is how our local farmers use this stuff).

Generic - Propylene Glycol #338-230-Z

I just discovered the thread in here on suppliers. There ya go Bob. :) I may get this instead. Yeah a gallon I think would be overkill.

I don't see U.S.P. printed on these bottles either. U.S.P. guarantees that it is safe for you. The gallon bottles from TSS have Propylene Glycol, U.S.P. printed right on the front of the bottle. You asked for something safe, and without the U.S.P. I don't know how safe those two sources you have found will be.

Sorry for the double post, but it won't let me edit my previous one, but I wanted to add that buying it from a store, like TSS, will also cut out the shipping costs and/or problems. :)

I guess if you don't have a TSS near you, then it wouldn't make much of a difference though. I have one only about a mile or two from the house, so it is really convenient.

I've ordered the gallon from Revival Animal Health, and it is USP (says so on the label). That's when they carried Vedco brand. You could always ask them to verify that it's still USP grade they carry. I've found that they are very helpful folks.

hi Walrus,
Yep, that stuff is ok to use. As a former dairy farmer, and still a hobby farmer, it is the stuff you mix meds in to give to large animals and give for ketosis, which is similar to a diabetic shock in cows. The super sweetness stablizes them. have evehn heard of it being used by diabetics as a sweetner.

If it is usp it means it is pharmacological grade. I never rubbed it teats, it is way to sticky and sweet He he. What we used for chapped teats is glycerin!

Speaking of glycerin, I started a tread about glycerin maybe you could answer my questions. Used glycerin usp grade for chapped udders but Rubbing glycerin on teats and inhaling .... well 2 diff stories!. Not that I have never smoked anything questionable before... but now in my old age and wisdom........ whatdaya know about inhaling the usp glycerin vs vg? I bought the super concentrated usp glycerin at the drug store and add coupla drops in my juices, produces rich , thick vapor. Thanks

VG and glycerin are the same thing. Glycerin comes from soap, and they use oils/fats to make soap. Vegetable glycerin just means all the fats came from a vegetable like olive oil when making the soap. Regular glycerin just means it might have some lard in it. Unless you're vegan I wouldn't worry, as long as it's USP grade you know it's safe.

Safira, thanks a bunch for your reply. That was my thought too. I had a dr. tell me to put in my daugther's vaporizer when she was little, (many years ago) and he told me ot get it at the drug store. This stuff I bought is anhydrous so not cut with water and is super thick. I used it to thicken some thin juice and found that I get an awesome vapor! I love it.
