I am a MtBaker Vapor customer and when the posts popped up last month about fraudulent charges tracing back to another vendor, I looked into pre-paid cards. There was a lot of really good info in those threads about different types of pre-paids and accounts offered by various credit cards. I looked into a pre-paid card that was sold at Wal-Mart but you needed to provide your SSN. I am not interested in anything that asks for that level of personal info. So I went very basic and purchased a $50 AMEX gift card and I used it and it worked perfectly. It's not as convenient because you have to be equipped with a gift card or plan your purchases, but it keeps me from worrying about any extra hassle of checking my accounts for fraudulent activity.

I have never purchased anything from Mt Baker Vapor. Have never even visited their website. Not because I thought there was anything wrong with MBV. Quite to the contrary. From what I've read on numerous threads, they have many satisfied customers and seem to be a reputable company with excellent customer service. I simply had not heard of MBV at the time I was buying my first e-juices and devices, and have been happy with the companies I had first run across.

In late April my credit card issuer (Bank of America) notified me that they (BoA) were closing my credit card account and opening a new account for me. New credit card number. New credit card. I called BoA to ask why. They told me a vendor I'd done business with had notified BoA that the vendor had been experiencing credit card fraud problems.

Over the past two months, I had done business with six different e-cig vendors (none of them Mt. Baker or alien Visions), so I have no idea which one(s) I purchased from was/were affected. I did notice that the check out procedure of three of the vendors I ordered from looked exactly the same as each other, so I agree with Racehorse and 440BB:

Ask them who their CC processor is. Seems like that is where the holes are.

There are only so many credit card processors out there that will deal with the ecig community. I suspect that whenever we see a rash of these fraudulent charges that the vendors involved happen to use the same one.
---
Recently named Alien Visions and Mt. Baker are victims as well, as it hurts their business.

A prepaid card is the best protection when purchasing online. I have a re-loadable prepaid visa that I use for online purchases and never had this problem.

But I know that Visa/Mastercard have fraud protection, so you should get your money back if you used one of these. Just file a report and change your card number.

Just checked my email right now on lunch and James wrote to me telling me this is the first he's heard and will look into it. He also apologized for the troubles. I hope I will hear a follow up, but the short response makes me believe I won't be getting one.
Having done alot of business with Mt Baker...and knowing that James is involved...
It will be resolved.
Mt Baker is a fine, ECF registered vendor...an James is a upfront guy.
(And there juice is top notch !)
I checked my CC today, from my big order on Sunday...no problems.
But, as I posted on page one...I use an iPad- so there are no key loggers or malware here.

I have ordered from them allot, and from what I have seen they are a stand up company. I haven't been hit yet with any fraudulent charges from ecig purchases, but I had my share of them years ago when my debit card number was stolen in a restaurant. Hopefully James will find out whats going on, and let you and everyone else know. I would be lying if I said that this doesn't make me nervous ordering from any online vendor. My only payment option is a debit card as I don't have, and really don't want a credit card. And I know just how dangerous it is to use that form of payment. I may finally break down and start using prepaid cards. Fortunately, I don't *need* to place an order for a month or three. This may just finally break my ordering binge. :)

Spent years paying all my credit cards off and cutting in half, don't want anymore. I keep one for travel, car rentals, or emergencies if necessary. Seeing how many in this forum got hit, myself included, all my future purchases will be the paypal debit card or a prepaid. Friggin hassle!
