I'm not exactly sure what to talk about, so I'll just tell you guys all of the projects I'm working on for my classes.
For sculpture I'm making a leaf out of limestone using only rasps (blisters, ouch), but there isn't really a deeper meaning. I'm just doing it for the sake of making a voluptuous mini-sculpture. There is also a series of 10 eggs I'm making that are made out of 1/4 inch steel rod that will be covered in a fleshy fabric I'm going to dye myself. On the inside I will be adding small LED lights to and little fabric fetuses so that their shadows will show up on the fabric of the egg. It's mostly an internal discussion on the fact that I will never truly experience childbirth due to my homosexuality, unless I find a surrogate. They will be hanging from the ceiling, mounted to the walls, and lying on the floor. Should prove to be interesting.
For my small metals class, I'm making a "swizzle stick". It isn't technically a stick, but we have to make something of the like for our favorite drink- mine being whiskey. It is going to be a monocle on a chain with a ball on the end and a brass mustache in the middle of the chain. It's going to be hilarious to actually wear that thing.
For my drawing class, I'm making a 6 foot figure drawing of my great-grandmother with some surrealistic qualities, lending itself to all of the psychological disorders that she had.
Finally, for my digital studio class I'm using Adobe illustrator and photoshop to create a surrealistic scene of "mini-worlds" (google it and you'll see what I mean). On one of them, I will be stuck in an illustrated cage, while the others float around with very flamboyant and sexual overtones. I am doing this one based on feeling like an outcast within the homosexual community because I act so "straight" and "macho" compared to most of my homosexual counterparts along with my very conservative views on relationships and sex. It will prove to be interesting.
I also only have two weeks to do all of this.
I should probably get back to work.
