French court bans e-cig store

A court in France made a landmark ruling on Monday when it ordered an e-cigarette store to stop selling the devices because it represented unfair competition to a nearby tobacconist. Under that thinking you can't buy potato or tomatoes they have nicotine in them too .

Just watched Stossel last night. I had no idea that current businesses had a say in what new competitive businesses could start up. I don't know the laws in France but in the USA that sure flies in the face of a free market place. Some who were stopped from starting up banded together and challenged the law taking it to court... everything from a moving company to a restaurant. They won but most just accept it.

Based on this, cars should have never become part of every day life. It put stables, horse hands, carriages, and the people who scooped the poop in the street out of business.

Perhaps the judge was given a little incentive by the tobacconist, Annie. I suspect people with tobacco shops are getting ripped with the increased buisness in ecig shops, and want to be the only ones to sell ecigs and have the ecig shops go away.
