Ok I have some questions for the answer man.:) So lets talk coils.....

1) Have you every tried the stove top coil and if so what do you think? (a coil without a wick sounds intriguing)

2) I read threads about a lot of different type coils like Mundy's magic and fused Clapton coils and wondered if they are any better than the run of the mill coils? Also they seemed to be when made are extremely thick and need large post holes to accommodate them...true or false?

Can't wait for the next installment.

I've tried stove top coils, you don't wick through the coil you wick around it. They are extremely hot coils, awesome flavor but burn through a lot of juice. I built mine using 24g and they had 4 wraps each. They were at .22 ohms total. Burnt the black paint off my rm5 AFC ring, the top cap and drip tip were hot after a few hits. I haven't built them in a while and I've only had them in my rm5 twice.

Hey Russ, I have a question for ya.

I've noticed with my Odin running the air intake wide open, I tend to get a "whistle" when using it. The whistle goes away if I close the intake just slightly, but was wondering if there's another way to quiet this bad boy down a bit? Even without the whistle, it's a tad on the noisy side.

Two things my man.
1. The relationship of the coil / wick to the airhole is what's causing the whistling. Most likely it's a little to close to the air. You might also try to lower the coil so the top of the coil is in line with the top of the air slot.
2. If it's loud, think of it as a high performance V8 and floor it - tires smokin? Yep, all that vapor is like the tires smokin on that high performance atty :)

I hear ya, Odin boy :) Like I said, closing the air intake slightly gets rid of the whistle. And hey, I was never one to complain about the sound of a beefy engine running full throttle. Just wondering if anyone had found the same thing with theirs, since I hadn't seen it mentioned.

I'll think of it as my old '68 all black Triumph Bonneville with muffler baffles removed by "somebody"

I have a question for your next video Russ, and it may be a dumb one :)

Do you see any reason that pre-building coils is a bad idea? Sometimes (cough...today) I get into the mood to wind coils. I wound up like 8 coils today and put them in a small drawer where they won't get much air, light, etc., and won't be knocked around much. If I were to mount these coils say a month or 2 down the road...would they be alright, or is there some reason they need to be wrapped/wound immediately prior to building?

Regardless I'll keep makin' em when I feel like it cause winding coils on that gizmo is fun as hell :) but if there's a reason to not use them later on, I'll find a way to decorate my house with them.

Sloth! Ur back? Or is it your somewhat controlling brother masquerading as the poet?

Coils should last for a fair bit - rumour on the street is as long as you're not annealing (torching) them, which can render them susceptible to oxidation.

Hi brotha! I am back :) good to see you Papa!

I don't anneal my wire, but it comes pre annealed from Temco. Thinking about it, I hope that's no issue because I'm stocked up on a ridiculous amount of wire (over a years worth easily). I'm guessing there's really no difference in that wire whether it's on the spool or wound into a coil, but I'm a cautious dude so I like to make sure by gathering others input.

I keep all my spare 100ft spools of wire inside a pelican 1020 weather proof case. Water proof, air tight, tough as nails case, I'm cautious too and plus I don't like anyone messing with my sxxx.

I have two of these cases.

I can fit three 100ft spools inside one 1020, and the other 1020 I use as my go kit that I take to work. It has a bag of rayon for wicking, different bits to wrap coils on, wire cutters, small screw drivers for post screws, allen keys for post screws, noalox, spare atomizer, basically everything I'd need to take apart my reo and build new coils. Works fantastic, I've dropped the cases out of my truck several times and nothing inside has ever been damaged. The cases haven't ever been damaged either.

Hey x. Is there a difference between the silver hammertone and hammertone? I see a couple reos with hammertone finish and black wrinkle doors, but they look darker than the silver hammertone. Just wondering...i be shopping:D

I think there is only one hammertone bro. And it's silver :)
