Hello!
I've been lurking for a few weeks, now, and decided it's time to introduce myself.
I'm a 29-year-old stay-at-home mom of one 7-year-old (step-daughter) and two baby boys. I have been a smoker since I was 15 years old, which is far, far too long.
I have attempted to quit smoking many times, with the assistance of the patch and Wellbutrin. Wellbutrin was basically useless, and while I did get SOME relief with the patch, it did not address the HABIT I had. I missed the action of inhaling that disgusting smoke. So I always went back to the stinkies.
I became interested in e-cigarettes when a political blogger I respect very much made an unusual non-political post about how e-cigarettes helped him stop his 2 PAD habit for good. This piqued my interest back in November. Oddly enough, my little brother had just given up snus with e-cigarettes, and for Christmas he got me 2 eGo-T Vision batteries, and a handful of Kanger T3 clearomizers. I was interested, ordered some e-juice, and finished the last of my cigarettes on January 4th.
I was honestly skeptical, but I gave it a shot. It has worked like a charm so far. And I have been tested and tempted, but I have prevailed so far and I don't intend on going back, ever. A week ago, I was cleaning my closet and actually found a pack and a half of old cigarettes. I knew I was on to something when I immediately marched them over to my husband, handed him the awful things, and said, "Kill them." He gladly ripped them apart and threw them into the dumpster.
In the past, I would have hoarded them like the sneaky, gross addict I was.
My sister is in town from another state and she has recently quit smoking with Chantix. We went to play Bingo and, of course, the Bingo hall was full of smokers. There was even an ashtray in front of us. We both resisted, but I was able to do so more comfortably, I believe, because I was vaping away. Truth be told, she visited my apartment yesterday, and I could smell cigarettes on her. I hope she will try e-cigarettes.
I am enthusiastic and, honestly, shocked. I was sure I was doomed to be the woman with the raspy voice who died of COPD. I feel cautiously free, and I'm excited about it. My house is cleaner, too, which is a bonus, because I don't have to take 10 minutes to be outside 20-30 times a day. That adds up!
I love this forum and look forward to reading, lurking, and maybe even posting.
