That's pretty good setup.
I found some flavors are very muted on tanks but comes alive on RDA. Make a huge difference. Local shops around here tend to be very friendly and always full of friendly people. If you tell them you are just getting into vaping and want to try out a RDA, I am sure you can find someone offering a quick hit on their gear. Just bring your own drip tip. :p

My shop hasn't been overly helpful. Some employees are but I always get this one guy who acts like I am bothering him. =P.

Hmmm... lots of variables a play here - the juice, the tank, and your tongue.

Pretty much all vapers go through a dull taste period as their taste buds regenerate and adjust to life without smoke (thus the question about your smoking habits above). That will sort itself out (if you don't smoke further) and the best advice is to drink plenty of water. More than plenty, in fact. Imagine yourself having run a marathon in the Mojave desert. You'd need a lot of water, no? Well, drink that, and when you have, drink another glass.

Your tank will degrade with use. Specifically, the coil unit in your tank will gum up or get coated in scorched juice. Not sure if you're using cartomizers, but it happens to them, too. Either way, the coils are disposable. Dispose them regularly (or clean them, but that is probably a topic for another day).

You might also want to invest in a reputable tank if you don't have one already. Given that you mention juices tasting better in a shop than at home suggests you might want to change your current gear. The two most popular clearomizer tanks would be the Protank family and the Aspire family. Many choices within each family; all have devout followings on this forum.

The juice... well, that is going to be the most subjective thing in the mix. What works for you will be just that - what works for you. Vaping will most likely evolve for you over time as your body adjusts to it and you experiment. For where you are now (i.e., your current dissatisfaction with flavor), I'd suggest you go for some stronger juice flavors to get you over this hump. Menthol, licorice, mint, many of the "cake" varieties are all usually quite strong. You might think they're awful sounding but you'll be surprised at how some things will do it for you. I never smoked menthol cigarettes (couldn't stand them), but I like a nice menthol vape. Black licorice candy makes me gag, but I love a good absinthe vape.

In any event, stay strong. You're in the valley of disillusionment - perfectly normal. It will pass, and this forum will help you out with that. When you get over this hump, you'll be made in the shade... and well hydrated... definitely well hydrated.

tl;dr: get a good tank, change coils, drink lots of water, try strong flavors, know you have friends to help here.

Thanks! I managed to get to the vape shop today and bought a ProTank Mini. The juices I ordered from MBV were all on the tank cracker list so I needed a glass tank. And I ordered them with extra flavor shots so I feel a little more encouraged that I can find some juices I like.

I'm not sure, but you may want to try an e-liquid with some amount of PG in it.
You stated that you are vaping 100% VG..
PG is propylene glycol...It carries your throat hit and flavor.
VG is vegetable glycerin...It creates the vapor.

You need to decide what is more important to you. Flavor/throat hit or vapor. Then it's easier to decide what ratio is best for you. I personally am vaping 60/40 or 50/50 and and as a fairly recent convert to vaping( 5 months), these ratios seem to work best for me.

Only the juices from Johnson Creek are 100% VG. I don't know the mix in my usual juice, it's not on the bottle, but does have PG. I think I ordered 50/50 from MBV so fingers crossed they will taste better to me. =)

Good to know. The guy at the shop said every few weeks or once a month =\ but he also thought a 15 ml bottle of juice would last me a few weeks, too. I obviously vape more than I smoked.

That's funny, 15ml is a week, maybe, for me. A new vapor will go through that fast, what with the transitional chain vaping and spillage.

It's always amusing to see threads like this, when everyone rushes in to recommend their personal favorites in gear and juice to newbies (C'mon, an RDA? That's a considerable investment in gear, time, money, and experience), or how to tweak or use something. There's a lot to learn about vaping and gear, if you want to dig in, or you can find a spot you're comfortable with, and stay there. We all have our own journey.

I recommend baby steps. Keep it simple, one issue at a time, that way you won't end up with a pile of gear you don't know how to use right, and don't like.

As I take it, your issue is flavor. That's been addressed. My personal recommendation is to try some vendors who's flavors I've found to be very strong, and good - Tasty Vapors is my personal favorite, at 50/50 mix they're excellent, Halo is very, very good, I love their Kringle's Curse, which is a candy cane, and some of Heather's Heavenly Vapes are very strong and excellent. I've been exploring flavors by buying sample sized bottles, Halo, Alice in Vapeland, Heathers, most of them have 10ml bottles that are pretty cheap, aren't a big investment in cash, and will give you a good idea of the flavors, without having to buy a 30ml bottle.

Also, some flavors require a steep to improve, as you've found. Some are days, some are weeks. I'm waiting on one now that's a week and a half into it's steep, and it just changed color yesterday, and started smelling like the flavor it is (orange creamsicle). Getting started is hard, because a lot of newbies don't have collections of juice yet to fall back on if a flavor is going to take time to steep - you might want to look around the juice reviews and find some that sound good, that don't require a long steep, to get you going. I was lucky, in that I found an all day vape very early in my journey, and found a few more that I use all the time, trying new ones in between.

Also, I've found I need to brush my teeth 3 times a day now, and drink a lot of water, to keep my tastebuds clear and fresh.

Ego-t battery with a Kanger MT3 tank (that's without me looking, if I have the numbers/let's wrong. I am sure you get the idea though. )

Hi justjennifer and welcome to ECF. Congrats on being analog free. I've been vaping on a eGo-t upgrade battery and Kanger MT3S since I started vaping a few months ago and the only thing I've added are some Vision Spinner VV batteries to my mix of equipment (and I have backups and backups for my backups and now, even backups for the backups to my backups...I seem to keep ordering coils and clearos, so I am stocked for a while).

Folks here have offered some great advice. At present I use a 50pg/50vg mix and I like the throat hit and the flavor delivery. That being said, I have gotten some juices that I REALLY don't like. I've also gotten some flavors that are great. The suggestion of trying some sample packs from various vendors (I tried that with Mr. Vape and found a few out of the 5 that I like and a couple that just aren't for me). I realize that everyone's taste is different. Rotating flavors has been great for me. I have my all day vape (which is a mix of a couple of different menthols and peppermints) and in the evening I go from peach to chocolate chip mint ice cream to kiwi to mango.

The folks here were a great help in suggesting that I try lots of different flavors and be aware that my tastes may change over time. That has been so true for me.

I follow the advice of changing and cleaning my coils every few days (so I do get somewhere between 2 and 3 weeks out of each coil and some juice gunks up my coils more frequently than others).

Hope you keep experimenting and that you find a number of juices that you absolutely love. Again, congrats on being smoke free. May your vaping journey continue to grow. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Namaste.

Small size samples are the way to go. I have tried 70 and found only 12 I liked and 4 I loved.

I don't want to highjack this thread, but I see another Mainer from my area. I'm in Stonington, and went to the Maine Smoke shop on Broadway today. Loved the vape bar!

Jennifer, I know what you mean about vape flavors. I was having the same problem. Today I got the Kanger MT3S tank and a Vision Spinner. I did finally get some juices that are better than the ones I had before, and even though they don't have great reviews, they are better than what I had. I'm also liking VV, and it makes things taste better. I hope we both find something we are really happy with.

In the mean time, it's so great to have all these great vapers to help us!

I have a vape shop about 1 mile from my house, I take an empty clearo or two with me and if I am interested in a flavor that I have tasted in one of their shop atomizers, I get them to shoot a 1/4 mil or so and actually try it on my rig before buying. They don't mind and I dont gt any unpleasant suprises when I get home.

:) I'm near your area. If I'm guessing correctly about which one you've been going to (and your experience sounds very similar to mine), do go over to the other one when you get a chance. Despite being pretty busy most of the time, I've found them to be much, much friendlier and willing to take the time to help. They also make their own juices, several of which are fantastic, and maybe they can tweak something for you if you don't find anything you love. I always go to that "other one" now, even when it's not as convenient.
