I've been vaping for a good 7 months or so now.. But im running into an issue, which is intermittent, but it is happening more often, once every week or two

I am getting bad canker sores and dryness and cuts in my mouth from the vapor. (not to be confused with cold sores and hsv) I've read as much as I can from the past, and there has been no real information. Initially i believed it to be the VG actually causing it, but even so more lately its now occuring even just using PG.

I'm frustrated, because I LOVE vaping have invested alot, and if I stop I will surely go back to smoking, but these mouth issues are REAL bad to the point I like can't talk.

Any body have any ideas or info or any new news about this stuff I need help!

I drink a TON of water, and I use hydrogen peroxide in my mouth which definitely helps with this, but I need to figure out a fix. I also read that some FLAVORS could be doing it, but jeez that would mean I vape just ONE flavor for atleast a week or two and see if its happening due to flavoring.

Any input would be great. Thanks in advance!

Hydrogen peroxide may feel like it helps, but it can actually irritate the tissue more if used frequently. You might want to try Biotene, it's a rinse for dry mouth.

Only read the first part of ur post and was like hydrogen pyroxide? whaaaa? but ya lol biotene is awesome. the toofpaste kinda sucks tho - get the gelatinous tube o' fun.

I've been using hydrogen peroxide full strength as a mouthwash most of my 64 years. But when I started vaping I was having mouth sores too. So I used the h2o2 more often. WRONG!! My dentist told me to dilute it. I cut the h2o2 with half water & used it less often. I used the Biotene part of the time too. My mouth irritation went away. Yay!!

So there ya go. Too much of a good thing I guess.

When I first started I would get them all the time. I spoke to a friend who is a pharmacist & she told me that in addition to taking Lysine everyday with my vitamins that when I got a canker sore I could use it to make a paste & put it on the canker sore to help relieve it. Taking it regularly is supposed to help prevent it.

I DIY my mixes due to food sensitivities. That said, a main advantage is that it allows me to A) know what's in the e-juice (well, mostly) and B) swap stuff around.

I had some VG that cause mouth irritation. It was from one particular vendor's stock...IDK where he got the VG. Others have not reported problems, so IDK. However, I swapped it out for another vendor's VG. Problem went away. Swapped it back in...problem came back. Swapped out...problem went away again.

It affected my lips and tongue mostly.

Anyway. I suggest you get different juice from a different vendor. Or try DIY to see if you can swap stuff around. It could be certain flavorings too. But since you mentioned VG, and I experienced my own "VG Issue" I thought I'd mention it.

P.S.
Are you allergic or sensitive to things like coconut that you know of?
Maybe you're sensitive to VG in general?
See the health section on this site too.

Canker sores (aphthous stomatitis) can indicate vitamin and/or mineral deficiencies (iron, folic acid and vitamin B12) as well as celiac disease (gluten intolerance) or Helicobacter pylori infection (the bacteria associated with stomach ulcers). I suggest visiting your health care provider to have those checked out.

I went through the canker sore stage, too. It's actually from quitting smoking and not a result of vaping. You are probably deficient in one or more of the following: folic acid, vitamin c, zinc and/or iron.

I had these sores for eight weeks, but they've finally disappeared. While researching the cause, I discovered that almost 40% of people who quit smoking, whether it's using the patch, gums or cold turkey will get one or two in the first two months of quitting, but half of those who get them will not have them for more than one month, so hang in there!

I started taking a B complex (with vitamin C) and iron supplements and changed to a toothpaste without SLS (sodium laurel sulfate?). The one I'm using is Biotene. My cankers were gone within the next two weeks, so either the detox had run its course, or the toothpaste and supplements helped. Either way, they're gone now.

For the pain, you can try a mixture of 50% peroxide & 50% warm water and use as a mouth rinse, or try a mouth sore rinse like peroxyl (tastes better and helps numb the pain a little). Yogurt with live cultures is also good to help heal them. Get a brand that specifically lists acidophilus on the label.

Incidentally, I found that the canker sore medications actually irritated them more and they healed more slowly than just leaving them alone and keeping my mouth rinsed often.

Here's hoping you feel better soon! They really are painful for such little things.

Thanks everybody for the response's. I will look into a bunch of the suggestions. So frustrating, but for the record, these aren't 'quit smoking' canker sores, for I have been off analogs for 6+ months =) And as far as going to my healthcare provider, unfortunately, she is not the sharpest tool in the shed, she told me I have canker sores, and prescribed me medicine for herpes. (Which for the record I dont have! lmao)

I second going to the doctor, one that can run some tests. If that isn't an option, try removing things from your vape juice and diet. When I quit smoking my thyroid problems flared up so bad and I didn't really connect it until 6 months in. I don't know, others have talked about it to but I thinking smoking represses immune disease symptoms. Ended up not being hypothyroid but hashimoto's and a gluten intolerance.

I had mouth irritation after around 2 years of vaping.

I switched to 100% Vg and Organic Flavorings and it went away.

I DIY my own.
Try Virgin Vapes and buy a bottle of 100% organic and see if it doesn't all go away.
PG allergy is common and also less well known is allergies to the artificial flavors that many companies are using to flavor there juices.

If 100% Vg doesn't work than try 100% PG, I've heard much rarer stories of VG allergy too.

JonJay, I have tried just about everything that's been mentioned here and probably 10 more remedies because what works for one may or may not work for another. I have found that this product from Amazon really helps in both the alleviating pain and helping to make them go away faster. I know it's not a remedy in NOT getting them, but it really does help!

I am vaping 16MG. I have to say, I went out yesterday after the amount of responses, and purchased BIOTENE Gel and toothpaste. I used the gel last night, and WOW. Noticeable difference immediately.

Again, I believe the VG is one major component in this over irritation. When I vape anything 50/50 THAT day my mouth begins to act up. And the certain flavors could be as well, but it will be hard to zero in on which flavor (for I rotate often)

But I noticed something else, could the silica string or a certain setup (due to air flow and other things) be creating it? I noticed on a vision clearomizers my mouth irrates more then if I use an atomizer

I've been DIYing for about 5 months now and also stocking supplies. I can say this without question: Both PG and VG vary. I have them from three different vendors and they're all different. Just one of the very noticeable things to me is the "oily" feel for lack of a better term. I mentioned this feel of juice vapor here on the forum before starting to DIY and no one knew what I meant. I know there's no oil in them but they feel that way when you get in on your fingers. So far, I know I'm "sensitive" to VG, again for lack of a better term, because when I go above 30/33% I get phlegm in the bronchials or back of my throat depending on the depth of my inhale and nose if I exhale through it. To me, anything that causes phlegm I class as an irritant as its the body's way of protecting itself and flushing the substance out. So or but, the thing is, we don't know what PG or VG any particular vendor is using and they can also change it in our ADV juice at any time... so punt... nor do we know what supplier's flavoring they're using. I already had one change the flavor source on one of my favorite juices. And at another, all the different flavor juices I've tried cause phlegm as well as bathroom trouble for me so that's for sure a case of the bases they use maybe even the nic or its base in that case.
