So I'm smoke-free for a little over a month today, and have been enjoying my vaping journey immensely. My senses of smell and taste are coming back, my wife is happier, all of the benefits you see on the beginner's forum daily are happening. This morning, I had one of those 'YES!!' moments that we former smokers recognize and cherish.

While puttering around doing laundry, I kept noticing a really sweet smell when I went near the laundry room. It was so unfamiliar I kept walking out and in, trying to pinpoint it, and beginning to worry that maybe something was leaking, or up against the water heater...something. I finally figured it out - it was the flowers my wife put in a vase on the breakfast nook table!

We've lived in this house over a year, and she always has fresh flowers in that vase. I've never smelled them! When I realized what it was, and what had happened to enable that moment, I stood there smiling like an idiot for a full two minutes.

Then I went upstairs and vaped :D

Heh - you had an olfactory profound revelation. :D

I remember those when I first quit. It's weird, because you know your sense of smell is getting better in a general way, but every so often something just smacks you upside the head. The one I remember most was groping to the kitchen, opening the can of coffee (yeah - it was coffee in a can ) and getting hit with Wow! That really smells like coffee! All it was was the last couple servings in a can of Maxwell House - and we all know what an underwhelming experience that is. And I had not stuck my face in the can either. Just took the lid off, almost knocked over by the smell. At least it was a good smell.

Now, about those olfactory revelations some peeps have with their babies and two year olds...

I rememer the first smelled a smoker (not currently smoking) from across the street. I realized that I had never snuck a cigarette unnoticed in all my nearly 50 years of smoking because any non or former smoker could smell it on me from across a room no matter how discreet or sneaky I thought I had been. Also figured out I had been using too much cologne.

The smells coming back is a blessing and a curse sometimes lol. The worst smell for me is people's jackets (that still smoke).. I can walk by a few cubes away in the office and almost gag from how gross it is..

I made the mistake of going in the 'smokers box' outside yesterday and I reeked the rest of the day..luckily I have cologne at my desk but sometimes that just combines and makes an even worse smell

On a positive note, makes me feel even better that my clothes no longer smell like that on a regular basis!

I recall one of those "YES" moments. I was walking out to my car on a spring day after it had been lightly raining. And then it hit me. I could smell the aroma of wet grass and earth ... a wonderful scent of nature at its finest. I hadn't smelled that in probably 30 years, and I had to just stop in my tracks for a few moments and breathe in the fresh air of a rain-cleansed atmosphere.

A funny stink story. My car smells like gasoline combustion and motor oil! I never could smell it before. I thought there was something wrong! I did realize it but for those moments.....silliness.
Reminds me of the time after my late husband got his hearing aid. He put on the directional signal in the car and asked me what I thought that strange clicking noise was. I'm afraid I did laugh before I told him.
