So I've been dabbling a bit with fused claptons and they've been getting pretty good. I was at a local B&M recently and one of the guys is a very advanced builder. We got to talking coils and he showed me how to wrap fused coils really quickly using the drill (which I have) and some kind of bench clamp with a swivel in it (which I don't). He wrapped me a quick 27 gauge core fused and its a phenomenal build. Super smoother and flavorful with some great plumes. The main difference I noticed was his cores didnt twist up, which made wrapping the coil a breeze.
I've got a few fused coils under my belt, and I did some recent ones with 26 gauge cores that turned out nice using a fishing lure swivel bobbin (or what ever it's called, I'm not a fisher). I tried again today using 28 gauge nichrome and the wire kept twisting up on me, really aggravating. I eventually did it the old fashioned way (gripping the outer wrap and leaving the ends loose), but it still twisted up a bit and I wasn't able to get it untwisted in a satisfactory way. Anyone have an additional tips or tool suggestions to make using the smaller gauges easier. I can do 26 and 24 gauge no problem, but the 28 gauge doesnt seem to want to pan out. Smaller gauges are useful for some of my mini rda's.
