OK PKZ thanks for your honest input, I guess I've been using this set up for 3-4 months or so and in the beginning I use to change my 400SS mesh wicks more often but I'm just finding through use that once they break in on my 2 G-tanks they really seem to last and last a long time.

I should have stated that I like how McMaster-Carr Packages it over the way The Mesh Co. packages their mesh.

In other words, it is easier to remove and replace the mesh from the package that McMaster-Carr ships it in, which results in less rolling of the mesh edges and bending of the sheet when handling it.

Edit to add;

Both The Mesh Company and McMaster-Carr are great vendors to purchase the SS Mesh from. I just prefer McMaster-Carr over The Mesh Company.

:2c:

I fully agree plus MMC has very quick shipping and the way it is pkg it comes very nice with nice crisp edges that arent all boogered up.

@MWA

Dan just posted this in another thread about how long his wick and coil has been going...

Ok what gauge Kanthal are you running?
How many wraps are you throwing on the wick?
Are you using a wick?
What Voltage are you running?
I run 32 awg kanthal at 4 wraps on a 1/16" wick at 1.8ohms at 4volts all day long on my provari. If it is dry it can cause errors on the provari, it needs to be wet. Running it dry with no wick, low ohms and high voltage will burn out every time.
I am on 70+ days on the same wick and coil on my provari.

Yup, I'm probably closer to over 2months on mine then 1 month too and I still see no reason to replace it. However when I do replace it or start with a new one, I really oxidize it well, and after the first 4 burns I then use VG for 4 burns, then after that I use the juice I'm going to use and burn it 4-5 more times with that. This seems to help the break in period and shorten the break in time for me. Good to know Dan agrees theres no need to change em all the time.

I have not had to worry about a break in period with mine... Unless i just prefer the un-broken wick =]
I just rinse and dry burn the coil every tank and have no issues to date. Of course I have only been using mine for a little over a month and have several SGV3's that I rotate flavors with. Mine have tasted great from the first roll of the wick.
I will say that i prep my wick by quenching with a drop of juice instead of dipping in water on most of them but have had no issue with the water dip either.

I'm still on the same wick and coil in my G-Tank. Still going strong! I'm still using one of the first first wicks I rolled for the SGv3 but have been through several coils. I've converted the wick into a "J" wick and like that better. I also pulled out the connector and resoldered the pos. wire inside the ce2 tube to stop it from leaking. Air flow is from the top now and I can't believe how much I'm enjoying it now that it doesn't leak like a seive!

bstedh,,maybe I misunderstand, but why would you have to rinse and dry burn your wick every tank ? I just keep filling my G-Tank again and again and again and never have to do this ever, like I said earlier mine just seems to get better as time goes on.

I too have been using the original wick on my G-tank just short of 3 months. The coil I have replaced twice I believe and the second time was today as it broke at the end going into the needle while cleaning it. I also seriously neglect this thing and it still produces and tastes great. Running at 2.7-2.8 Ohms at 4.5-5v, mostly at 4.7. I have noticed that with the G-tank it will handle crud buildup much better as it never seems to interfere with wicking.

I also opened up the inlet to 1.5mm today as I prefer quicker draws, and now I like it even more. It also keeps the atty body cooler, another bonus.

Moonlit knight emailed him already asking for an ETA ;-)

pmtoolco has wire on back order. Said he should have more within a month or so. I will post here when or if it comes in. Any other options for backup?

Considering he'll probably have it back in stock before we get our G-tanks, it might be worth the wait. That's where I got mine from, price and shipping were great and I had the spool in only a couple of days :)

That reminds me . . . I still need to log in to ebay and leave feedback

In regards to the wick management I have found that carbon crud will build up and maybe every week or so I will get out a dull x-acto knife and de-crud the carbon. That's it. Scrap clean and blow or paper towel off the crud crispys. I can't see getting rid of too much of the carbon as it is the "flavor savor" so to speak.

Most pipe smokers have their favorite pipes because of how they taste from past tobacco residues. :p
