Regents might ban all tobacco use at UGA | Online Athens

I just heard this on the news and found this in the Athens paper, have to leave for work and will try to get more info later.

Ok, I didn't find out about this until yesterday and they are going to vote on it at next months meeting, I'll find out how to contact them and post it later.

From what we seen in other states I don't know if we can do anything but give them information and see what happens.

The vote was held a couple of days ago and passed Smoking, vaping and dipping are now banned at every college campus in GA starting October 1. This includes sporting events and on-campus tailgating. It's sad, but not unexpected that the GA BOR is this uneducated and ludicrous.

The only hope for me is that there is a provision that each school can make exceptions to the policy. As a booster and football season ticket holder, I plan to write my alma mater's president and give him plenty of information and studies on the benefits of vaping and it's affects on the people around me. I have met him before and he is an intelligent and reasonable person, so I might be able to convince him to allow electronic cigarettes on campus.

I will also send some info to the GA BOR, but I have no reason to believe they will consider reversing their decision.

It doesn't make any sense at all to ban ecigs and smokeless tobacco, both of which are practically unenforceable, when they are both >99% safer than smoking combustible cigarettes, and neither harm bystanders in any way.
