We have to wait until Mid May but I have a greenhouse so about March 30 I have to have plants starting. I start them indoors and then move them to the greenhouse when they are a little bigger.
I'm not worry about next season plant just yet. The problem in front of me right now if my 4 tropical fruit trees and one tropical flower tree will survive this year. We got pretty bad frost last week, tempt dropped down to below 26 degree and that would most likely kill unprotected tropical plant. Last year I managed to kill two of my Thai mangos from early frost as well.

Yup South California, riverside area. The two mango that died cost me 100 bucks each shipped from Florida. I did protect two of the mangos this year but not longan, cherrimoya and Champaka.
What is the opposite of a "Green Thumb"?? Whatever it is, that's what I got. lol
I've never tried to grow veggies. Just pretty plants. Last Spring I had my front flower bed just brimming over with green and colorful flowers. I think they called the green ones sweet potatoe plant. The flowers were some kind of hardy year round flower. I'd tell ya what they were if I knew how to spell them. lol .
A sweet neighbor of mine gave me cuttings and I worked really hard to make them grow big and healthy. I was so proud.
Then I got tired of weeding. I didn't think to question when the bottle said it killed weeds. I didn't think of what I had growing as weeds so surely this stuff would just kill the stuff growing around my plants. The WEEDS. Right? Right?
Turns out I'm a Dumba$$. I killed them all. 6 months of work. Gone. Dead. On my birthday even. I will never try to grow anything again.

Is it warming up for you in Riverside yet, James? I sure used to love getting fresh lemons and avocados when I lived in Anaheim. They also had something called guavas. They were pretty tastey.
Yea!!!!! I started ordering seeds today. Summer squashes and watermelons and cukes and cauliflower and broccoli. Butternut winter squash and Luttuce, oregano and mesculin.
Can't wait until I have delicious fresh produce again.
Potato sets in red and white. I already have Russian finger potatoes hiding under some straw for next years crop out in the garden.
I couldn't order onions or garlic. They are claiming they can't ship to Nevada. What's up with that?
Won't be long now Lizzie,,as i look out the window now at 13" to 14" inches of snow i can see my red mineral tubs just green on top with tomato's and pepper etc.,,,,,,,pretty soon my asparagus will becoming thru the cold ground ( purple passion )man they are sweet steamed.
I tried asparagus and din't have much luck. I got some more and put it on the regular drip system so it gets watered more like shrubbery than veggies. I shall see if it does any better
I'm working on the greenhouse so I can get the plants started early. Mid May is about the earliest we can plant the veggie garden and last year we had late frost in the first of June that really devastated the veggie garden. Hoping for a better year this year.
