G'day from a Newbie!

Hi :) I hope this is the right place to post...still learning how to navigate this forum.

I plan to give up smoking a week from this coming Monday. My plan is to use nicotine patches as well as non-nicotine e-cigs. I am 30 years old and had my first cigarette at age 12. It became a full blown habit by the time I was 16 and I've been hooked ever since - every cold turkey attempt to stop hasn't worked, nor did the Allan Carr book, nor did the Inhaler or Gum.

There are so many different kinds of e-cigs available but I've settled on a starter kit with the Joytech 510 e-cigarette, will put my order in on Monday and it will be here mid next week. Will order a few different flavours of e-liquids (tobacco, Marlboro etc).

Just wanted to say hello. Looking forward to reading all your posts and beginning my new non-smoking life.

Thanks :) A couple of reasons...the smallest reason being that here in Australia, you can't buy nicotine e-liquid, you need to order it from overseas...which is fine, but it can take a while and postage can get expensive. The biggest reason is because I feel I have more control in tapering off nicotine all together with the patches. My doctor can prescribe the strongest patches at first, then I can gradually cut down in mg patches until I'm free from nicotine all together. Also, the prescribed patches will only cost me just over $5 for a months supply...so apart from my health being a good incentive to stop, the money I'll save will also be a fantastic motivator.

Hello and Welcome! I am also a newbie, I joined yesterday. I also started smoking at the same age and by the time I knew it I was hooked. Back in the 80's it was the cool thing to do. I started to vape in March and haven't touched a cig since. It's worked for me so I wish you the best on your journey. This forum has a lot of information that will help you so again, Welcome!

I had noticed Australia.. I'm in Canada and similar situation but there are many companies selling nic juice. Wow, patches are cheap there! Here they are about $5 a piece for the name brand ones. I can't use patches more than a day or two. I've had nose bleeds on the higher strength and I get skin reaction otherwise. It sounds like you have a good balance! Good luck!

Hi Emily and welcome to ECF! Yes, this is the right place for you to post. You can post anywhere after you have 5 posts under your belt.

I smoked for 37 years and vaping did it for me. If I could do it, so can you. It's been over a year since my last smoke now and all desire for one is gone. A Joytech 510 starter kit is great. I used pretty much the same thing.

I am down to zero nicotine now but I did start with 18 mg liquid. I quickly dropped to 12 and then took my time getting the rest of the way to zero. Also interested in knowing your thoughts on using the patch from the start. Nothing wrong with it in my book - whatever works is much better than the alternative. Best of luck with it :thumb:

Wow Sharon, here in B.C. the patches and gum are free. The problem I had is the patches and the gum both gave me blisters, I was worried about the nic juice, but I am not having a problem with them, I am so thankful for that.

Hmm, thanks for sharing that info re: Australia's nicotine liquid restrictions, been contemplating flying over there for a month or two during my winter and staying with a friend in Brisbane. I'm not at the nic-free stage yet so I'll have to remember to bring a bottle of nicotine and some DIY supplies if I do visit for any length of time, as it sounds like by the time I got the liquid on-order, I'd be ready to fly back to the States!

You can try ejuicechina.com. But they only stack Hangsen ejuices. Worked out for me as i really like the hangsen flavors. Also free shipping above $30. Ordered a lot from them. It takes a little time but hey, the shipping is free... :)

Interesting... I had no idea. They might be free now with prescription here but not sure. I travel a lot and use patches then. I'm okay with them for 1-2 days but can't go over that.

Be careful about transporting it ON you if you do go and need nic liquid. I had a friend who was refused entry to Australia for bringing something else that was illegal there that is legal in the US. Not fun to have to return back to the US after that! I'd suggest having it shipped there rather than on you.

Wow, yet another new one for me..I'm used to being able to carry small amounts of things like that through customs on a visitor exemption or similar..easy enough to just mail a bottle plus supplies a few days ahead of the trip. Hopefully there's no restriction on the actual PVs being carried through as I'd hate to risk mailing anything nice and having it lost in shipment or seized. Guess I'll read up a bit more on their customs/legal documents before heading over, if indeed I have enough time to go. That or just get a couple cheap-o eGos and mail 'em with the nic, that way it doesn't make a huge difference if the stuff is lost, I can force myself to survive a month without nicotine if it's necessary.

Probably a good idea to find out ahead of time what the situation is.
