Has anyone looked into insuring their collection? A friend of mine had his gear case stolen over the weekend and it got me to thinking, I have almost 2 grand in mods, tops and tools in mine. Don't want to talk to my insurance guy if I don't have to right yet so, I thought to put the question to the community.

Your standard homeowners insurance policy provides coverage for items stolen from your hotel room. Tell your friend to talk to his insurance agent because I am certain it would be covered, to what amount would depend on the policy.
Note: From my homeowners insurance policy.
Dollar limitations: The home insurance policy extends 10% of the coverage limits for your personal property to items that are away from your residence. Your policy is covering up to $25,000 of your personal property so you have $2,500 of protection for items while away from your residence.

That is so funny, I did the same thing. But I think you'd be able to add it to your home owners if it's not currently covered.

Although your homeowners policy may cover it, your deductible may be too high to make it worth filing.
I still think someone on this board should be geeky enough to create something to create an add on and an app that would do something interesting that you could use to app to activate in the case of theft. Stink bomb, dye pack, small explosion or just one of those lo-jack things we put in our pets.
