Hello all,

I'm overwhelmed by all of the rba/rda materials selection (wire, mesh, wicks...oh my) and need help!

My Story:
I've been vaping a Ego twist/mini Vivi nova and VAMO/Vivi Nova for about two years now and I'm making the (big) move to RBA/RDA's and mechanical mods. I want to stock up on supplies in order to rebuild various systems including: Kayfun 3.1, Russian 91%, IGO-L, Kraken, Helio, Pulse-G, and Trident. I'd also like to have supplies to rebuild Vivi Nova heads, Smoktech ARO heads, Kanger EVOD heads if possible.

My Goals:
I would like to be able to rebuild and maintain all of the above vaping equipment, experiment with various coil/wick techniques and (safely) explore sub-ohm vaping.

My idea of what materials I may need? (here is where I need help)
  • Kanthal a-1 (26, 28, 30, 32ga)
  • SS Mesh (350, 400, 500)
  • SS wire wick (??)
  • Ribbon Kanthal (?)
  • Silica Wick (2mm, 3mm?)
  • Ekowool Wick (2mm, 3mm, hollow or no?)
  • Cotton balls (sterile/organic)
  • Hemp, Yarn wicks (martha stewart, peaches and cream, Aunt Lydia's)
  • Ceramic Wicks (what is this?)

My Questions:
  1. What is missing from my list?
  2. What is not need from my list?
  3. Can you help me with my dilemma with any advice or instruction?

Much thanks in advance!!!

Tools?

- Needle nose pliers
- Side cutters
- Nail clippers
- Torch
- Dedicated ohm meter

The ohm meter is not strictly necessary since you have a device that measures resistance but I was never comfortable using my device as an ohm meter. Just a lot of taking the atomizer on and off, even though I was building for another mod.

As far as the actual materials, your list looks good, even more varied stuff than I ever use. I have various gages of round Kanthal (28, 30, 32) and use the 28 and 30 for coiling my RDAs and the 32 mostly for recoiling Protank atomizers. I've never used hemp , steel cable, yarn, or ceramic and I've given up silica for cotton balls.

My list looks like this:

- Organic cotton balls
- Round Kanthal 28, 30, 32
- Mesh (for genesis)

- Torch
- Tweezers
- Side cutters
- Nail clippers
- Scissors
- Dental pick
- Small screwdriver
- Small drill bits (for wrapping coils)
- Ohm meter

There is a kit on ebay that includes the most common pliers, Clippers, screwdrivers and tweezers, etc. AND an 510 ohm meter. Pretty handy little kit if you need to buy it all.

Check out the artistic wire wire gizmo for a cheap tool to make perfect coils.

Don't forget a torch.

Your supplies list looks complete.

Go with Kanthal 28ga and organic cotton to start and branch out from there.

My tool list:
Lit magnifying glass like this
Tweezers
Nail clippers
Fabric scissors
Hand torch
Precision screwdriver set
Multimeter
Maker's Mark

I would go with the Kamchatka 80 proof--it comes in a plastic bottle :D
