I’ve simply never found value in them in the types of RTAs I’m interested in... though I understand their purpose and necessity in some. I’d simply prefer less moving parts and a simpler design while still being somewhat innovative or “different”, like the Engine line and the Zeus.

The biggest disadvantage of Zeus type top air flow tank compare to those bottom air flow tanks is:

Every time when I rewick, I can clean up the chamber (with water) of the latter by soaking part of the tank (while it is still holding juice) in warm water (this is crucial since my favorite juice is gunk prone)

- as long as the water level never reach the JFC.

But I can't do the same with Zeus nor Nano...

Anyway, takes and gives, Zeus is still my favorite RTA as of this writing.

That is not fair, JFC does not contribute to leaking. The absent of JFC is not the reason why Nano and Zeus don't leak, instead, it is the design of the base that prevents seeping or leaking. The whole bottom part of the base serves as juice cup - this is the main reason why they are leak proof. But this kind of leak proof base design has a price to pay - the bottom air flow which is definitely more efficient than top air flow... further more, just because the air need to move from top down to the deck, space must be reserved on the side that means smaller deck diameter...

SMOK tanks don't have JFC (eg SMOK TFV8 and etc) but have similar base design like Merlin, Govad and so on, they all leak or seep sooner or later. For this type of tank, the present of JFC at least serves 1 obvious function: it helps in preventing or minimizing the chance of leaking when refill.

Well excuse me darlin. I am currently using a bottom af rta as well. JFC does indeed contribute to leaking in some tanks and rtas. Too open, leaks. Forget to close when refilling, leaks. Only the newer ones have added the close jfc while opening fill port feature. I admit I haven't tried one of those and doubt that I ever will. I personally don't need jfc to get a delectable vape experience.

I think we have different understanding of the term JFC. To me JFC is not the same with juice hole. JFC means you have a way to close the juice hole. As I have quoted as example, SMOK tank has juice hole but no way to close it - no JFC, it too leak.

Jfc is an added feature to control juice flow. My first tank that had it was an OBS t vct. Excellent flavor with .25 coil or rba. If you didn’t get jfc completely shut down and close af leaked the whole tank out in about 2 seconds. LOL I've got 2 more something or other tanks benched with the same issues. Will admit they are all excellent for flavor.

That is exactly the point, IMO, JFC is invented in the attempt to prevent leaking when refill - this is the main purpose (controlling the rate of juice flow is simply a minor function). But obviously, it is not efficient and most of the time does not really help.

I have used Goblin Mini V3 in the past, its JFC does efficiently stop leaking when refill but... after everything is done, eventually I have to reopen the JFC in order to vape and ... as soon as I reopen it, it leaks...

The above pictures of Rewicking while the tank was still full confused me. Why not Vape the tank empty and give it a thorough cleaning and rewick at that point ?

I constantly mix different complementary flavours together in the same tank so I wouldn’t have a clue..... Yeah I’m weird like that.

Tank doesn't need cleaned with every rewicking. Sometimes you just get the wick exactly how you want it and want to do it over. Especially if you are leaving longer tails.

I only open up every part of my tank for thorough cleaning when I recoil - that means most of the time, once a month.

I generally clean as needed anymore. Used to keep to a regular schedule but found it wasn't really necessary. Do clean dts and fill ports weekly at least. Sometimes more often.

Finally! Grub for Zeus arrived. If I can get my fingers warmed up I'll install a 4mm 7 wrap framed staple coil from AVS in it later. Will wait for the Gaia before setting up the other Zeus. Probably go with a single wire build for that one just to compare.

Tip for the Zeus newbs: Make sure to tighten the 510 pin on the bottom. One of mine was not snug from the factory and was causing some unexpected resistance readings based on my standard coil build.

ETA: Tightening the 510, especially if it's really lose, could mess up your build. I recommend doing this before installing a fresh coil.

Let me show you what my favorite juice did to my Zeus chamber:

um... that is the result of 2-3 days intensive chain-vaping.
So, when re-wick, I believe mortal livings like you and me will want something like that to be cleaned.
