The Kick can protect you against shorts but it's best if you test with a multimeter before you put on your battery. I use my DID-clone on my eGo Twist and regular eGo battery all the time - just make sure you do the coils between the standard resistances - don't go outside of 1.5 to 3.0 ohms. The battery shouldn't explode in your hand but it may get very hot.

the only time i ever had a short was when i was building the coil. I always check b4 i put it on any device. I used rba's with ego's for a couple months b4 I got my mod, so it can be ok, you just have to be safe. it's possible to develope a short after the initial build of the coil, but unlikely if you don't fidgit with it. if you're checking for hot spots, keep your meter handy. you just have to be careful, and with practice you'll know what to look for in a good coil.

When my DUDs first arrived I used to- but then one day, I used a newly coiled, ohms-tested DUD on an eGo 900- I ended up being very unlucky and about a minute into vaping it, I fried the circuitry and the battery became stuck "ON". It was not pretty...

...So be careful out there, and if I were you, I would grab yourself a cheap mechanical mod for the first runs on any Genesis builds!

Thanks for the advice guys.

I built a coil on a SS wick for my mini nova last night. Didn't work and I got frustrated and gave up. I checked it with the multimeter first but the ego just flashed at me. The first coil glowed red a little bit (dry burning) and then it just started flashing. At least I didnt die in a freak battery accident. I'll be ordering my silver bullet and kick shortly.

I managed to get the lock nuts on my genesis locked up too tight as well and couldnt get them undone! Had to bring it into work today to fix it.

Must've been one of those days. I'll have another go tonight.

I hope you have plenty of back up eGo's. I don't chance it after reading one guy blew 3 of them in one day. If you have enough of them on hand that you don't mind tossing them, go for it. RBA's are finicky sometimes. And when you least expect it, that coil can blow and then so goes the eGo without the proper protection. And no warning either.

Do you feel lucky?

Made my first mesh wick and coil last night and it worked! Well, a bit.

The top coil starts glowing red after a few seconds. It was glowing pretty evenly when I was dry burning it. Guess I'll just keep playing around with it. The first few draws I had off it were AMAZING. Tasted so clean, almost transparent. Not coloured by any taste of carto fluff or wicking material. But after the top coil started getting hot the vapour got a bit warm and the taste was ruined. I'll have another play around tonight. If I blow a battery, I'll stop. I only have two ego batts at the moment, and cant live without a PV! I'm not about to start walking around with my girlfriends pink ego twist either haha

I solved that problem by locking the nuts down with hemostats after first getting them finger tight.

Watch out with the DUD. I've found that the lock nuts on the positive post do not lock down so well sometimes. Every once in awhile the coil gets loose. You might wind up with a short (or a hotspot) even though your coil was perfect to start with.

I put a new coil on using the rolling paper method and it seems to have done the trick. The draw is quite open and it doesn't seem to produce as much vapour as my Vivi Nova, but at least I'm not inhaling any fibreglass. I'll keep playing around with it and see how it goes. I'm thinking I need more turns on the coil to increase contact area maybe.
