I could use bout 6 RM2s to do experimentation, got too many different ideas lingering in my brain at the moment.
Ok, got my 500 SS mesh, and tried a second incarnation of the horizontal wick. This one seems better. About 10 hits per squonk, and no metallic taste until it's really dry.
Here's what I did differently:
60mm long strip of mesh, about 12mm wide, unoxidized. On each of the long sides, I folded over a 2mm strip. This is to make it fray less on the ends of the wick, and to make it looser in the center -- more juice capacity. The wick is hollow, with about 1mm hole through the center. This made the wick very thick (sorry, Russ, it's opposite of micro coil). About 3.5-4mm thick. 30 ga coil measured at 1.2 ohm, and I think it could go a bit lower.
Interestingly, in the picture, you can see that it wasn't oxidized to start with -- there's only oxidation around the resistance wire.

10 hits is awesome bud. So in your opinion multi layers of the ss mesh is the way to go in holding more juice? Any comparisons vs cotton, like flavor for example? Is the right end of the coil touching the atty floor? LOL, sorry peeps for asking so many questions.....but it helps me make better decisions when building a new coil, and collectively we can get more done in shorter time

The right side does touch the floor.
Vs cotton, I'd say flavor is a bit cleaner, and, since it's dry-burnable, it's easier to clean when it starts gunking up and losing flavor.
I think what makes it hold more juice is the ends. The ends are folded, so in the center, the wick is rolled very loose.

i have a negative health reaction with Silica, Ekowool, Cotton, Bamboo, and Nextel... so i am hoping to find a SS Mesh solution... this looks promising but id love a better explanation and closer pictures

There's also been talk of a ceramic mesh, but I can't remember where I saw it (edit to add: found it, there's a huge thread on it in the RBA subforum, here). Are you sure it's the wick and not the juice you're using? Seems like that's a lot of allergies for one person to have, I'd be more suspicious of your liquid. If you're already using pure VG, be aware that although it's relatively uncommon, some people are allergic to VG too.

I found that to get it working, you want a not overly thick wick, no more than 3mm. I ended up clipping a chunk off my AGA wick for these puposes.
There are two different ways you can go about the coil.
1. 28 gauge wire, about 4-5 loops should get you to .8 ohm resistance. At that point, it vapes very close to genesis
2. Also 28 gauge, 10-12 loops tightly touching will get you about 2 ohm resistance. This operates kind of similar to a micro coil, even though the diameter is greater than your usual microcoil. Strangely, this produces similar vapor to the previous one, though it responds a little bit slower. But the battery will last you twice longer with that.
You want to squonk liberally with that setup. SS mesh drinks juice very fast, and as long as one end of the wick is touching or almost touching the floor of the atomizer, you should be good.
I get about 5-6 long drags out of each squonk, but that depends on your juice, wick, etc.
Incidentally, I did NOT like the wick sticking through the juice hole of the reomizer. Every time you let go of the bottle, it would suck the juice out of the wick back into the bottle, leaving it almost dry. You want it really covered in juice, almost floating.
