Well, today I decided to buy a new mechanical mod. A red smok Magneto II. And after purchasing the mod, I also got an Igo W, some 28 gauge kanthal, organic cotton pads, a mini screwdriver...and I got a Genitank Mega and some 0.8 ohm coils for when I don't feel like dripping! I think I'm going to use my VTR for a stand/ohm reader. (And I'm old school...I primarily still use AW 18650s)

Now, I've tried mechs before, but couldn't really get into them. Any tips and advice for me? I like the hassle-free nature of the mechanical mod, and could definitely switch over completely if I get into it enough.

I don't know how much you know about batteries and other mechanical mod safety issues, so here's a good list of topics you can have a look at; One Stop Reference Shop For New and Experienced Vapers. Important parts are the battery links, knowing about amp draw on the batteries, how much they can take and how to avoid going too high and venting your batts. Ohm's law is important to understand for that.

Some things to keep in mind are that you will want to swap out batts at around 3.6-3.7V. Any lower than that and they start dropping fast and if you take them under about 3V you can damage them. Keep your mod clean. All the tube threads and some surfaces in the switch and 510 connection are electrical contact surfaces and need to be cleaned or they develop high resistance and start taking away from your vape and make heat there instead. A short in the atty or 510 connection is bad and will cause your battery to vent fairly quickly depending on the battery. Always check new coil resistance before you hit the button. Never use ICR batts; IMR or hybrids like the Sony VTC, LG HE2, Samsung 25R, and some Panasonic cells are the way to go.

That's all I can think of now. Have fun :thumb:

I think vaping on regulated mods is simpler.

If you build a coil that is a little off in resistance you can just change the power.

You do not have to give any thought to running the battery too far down.

A short is no problem.

All in all the mod takes care of a lot of the little things you have to think about. Just push the button and vape. If there is something you need to check the mod lets you know in a nice way, not with smoke and flames.:)

Good info here ^^^. I will say this...I just received a SS Mag II today and I absolutely love it! Smok definitely improved the mod since they released the V2. The Mag II is solid, simple, well constructed, and easy to use. What's not to like? No, it's not a $200 mod, but it doesn't need to be. I've always thought the Magneto V2 was an underrated mod and I'm glad to see an update on it. In fact, the brass version is in my future. Vape on!
