I'm tired of the atty. Burnt taste, having to blow it out, clean it, etc etc... Is there any model thats more reliable? How about the KR808? The cartomizers I know you can refill. But do they have the same problems? Is this just a fact of life/unavoidable problem for the ecig? I'm starting to think it's not for me if that is the case.

Well go ahead and try the 901. I have not had a problem with it at all. havent had to do any cleaning. and it hits really well. I tend to not blow mine and still no problems. check out the 901 or the 801
All atomizers are pretty much made the same.
The only thing I would tell you is that you don't really have to clean them.
Having said that, the KR808D-1 is an exception because the design is very different.
It should reduce or eliminate your issues for the most part.
I am thinking about trying one myself if the ban does not come down.
They have manual batteries and PCCs available for them as well.
I, too, have this problem with the 510. I ordered the KR808D-1, but have not received it yet. From what I have read the cartomizers last longer without re-filling or topping off because the atomizer coil goes through most of the cart filler. I also have some greencig cartomizers on the way, so I can try both. I will let you know how it goes when they come.
If its really that bad, then I'd say you are doing something wrong.
To me e-cigs are a bit more work than cigs but... Think of a pipe or roll your own. If you've ever done that you know the smoke is all about how you prepare, pack your pipe or roll. The cigs we smoked are really a refined product that a lot of time and effort and manufaturing technique went into, so we can light them, get a constant smoke as easy as that.

If you want it to be easy, and not care about cost, why not buy 1000 prefilled carts from China. As soon as they start to loose vape, toss it and put in another. That option can't cost more than 5 bucks a day as 50 carts are about 15 bucks. Do one prefilled cart = 1 cig.

I have to clean it cause while I always keep it wet I get a burnt taste on all my attys after 7-9 days of use consistently and blowing it out doesnt get rid of it.
I would just like to say that there is a learning curve with the 510 for sure. If you use the standard filler in a cart you have to make sure NO little poly hairs are on the atty or you WILL get a burnt taste. If you decided to try out a PTB cart filler, you REALLY have to experiment on the right length for your carts if you just haphazardly roll it up and pop it in you will have several problems, but mostly flooding issues... once you have figured out the right length, you 510 will be your very best friend. To me I truly enjoy tinkering to make my 510 work at its best, but I TOTALLY understand the annoyance it can bring... Hell if it werent for my relentless attempts to get things just right, my GF would still be smoking analogs cause for her she cant be bothered to fiddle with the ****. I would imagine for many people they feel the same way... Seriously, if you use a PTB mod in your cart, if you leave it to long it smashes against the atty bridge and floods it out. If you leave it too short, it doesnt wick properly. All modifications you try on your 510 will increase the learning curve... Thus prolonging the blissful experience you could have with a 510! It does take some time to get there though... Sounds like the 808 might be for you.
Sorry to hear that you are having issues with your 510. I have had mine since 8-18-09 and went through the learning curve as well.
I just ordered extra cartridges and found that they are now made of FLUVAL and vapes nicely. I can now vape approx 10 drags and refill about 4-6 drops after I get the burnt taste. I do take two long drags (not just 5 sec) It also depends on the flavor/juice.
I mix my own juice/flavor except for tobacco flavors which I rarely use now. I do rotate my atomizers and leave the ones I am cleaning soaked in everclear. I find this an easy routine. While I use one, I have one soaking and have another one drying. Less hassle! I vape 3-4 ml and on my third week of rotation with no problems.
I think your main problem with flooding issues and burnt taste is from your cartridge. Swap the insert with Fluval. With this change, I have enjoyed longer vapes (less refilling) and less burnt tastes.

Me, too! I really like my 510; haven't had any problems so far...but I'm thinking about getting a 901, too, because I'm having fun with my new hobby and want to try a few different models.
I think that you will certainly find that the "hassle factor" for the KR808D-1 (and/or Greencig) is substantially less. Screw on a carto and go to town. If it starts to run hot or taste nasty, throw it out and screw on a different one. If you want to be more economical, don't throw it out and save it. Later you can pop them apart and refill them.
By theory it is a less "twitchy" and easier to use design. The only big downside that I see is that you might not get the same vapor production out of it that you saw from your 510.

Jemo, you have got to ask yourself which "burnt" taste you prefer? There is the burnt taste of a cigarette or a burnt taste of an e-cig. Some have posted on this forum that heavy use on atomizers render them defunct in about 2 weeks regardless of upkeep. The burnt taste has been attributed to numerous things complete with various suggestions of ways to deal with the burnt taste..but to my knowledge there is no way to completely eliminate a "bad taste in your mouth" periodicaly. Remember how many ciggies tasted a bit off?

Direct drip a couple drops of juice on the atty and you are good for several consistent puffs. Repeat. Very easy.

I would say go ahead and get the cartomizer and give it a shot, what have you got to lose? These things are not meant to last forever, so why not try the different ones that you want until you find a couple that you really like and stick with those for a while. Most of us get a few models anyway.

Any atomizer is going to build up crud over time and the solution is either to clean it out well or replace it. It takes my attys a least 2 weeks to start dropping off in performance, so at a cost of $8 to replace if I didn't want to clean, I've got plenty in my budget after not spending $10/day on analogs.

I wish I found this forum a few weeks ago. I have a 510 and have the same problem I'm about ready to give up. I read alot on here about this unit with the cartomizers and I think maybe that is what I should try before going back to tobacco. Where is the right place to ask questions about this model?

Thats the wicking material, tuck it (gentley) back under the atty Bridge. Do not pull it out. If you use the polyfil cart material, if any hairs are stuck on the bridge that will cause the burning taste, not the atty wicking stuff under the bridge.
Hmmm...still going through the learning curve myself. I have tried the PTB myself with much success. I don't want to switch e-cigs mostly because I have been stocking up on atty's and batts for a 510 and because I have turned several family members and friends onto the same, thinking we can order in bulk etc. But, having said all that I am a little "atty" anxious! I suffered through a few bad attys and have experienced the JOY of a good atty and all in all have decided that attys are just a crap shoot and you should buy several just in case. I have had no luck cleaning them despite research on the subject. My greatest success has been just blowing them out at night and letting them drain batt side up overnight, after a week, use a new one. This doesn't sound like a good review for the 510, and I don't know because I haven't tried anything else. In retrospect I may have been happier with a vapor king just for the ease of it all. One thing I know is that I'll never go back to an analog. My finicky little 510 and I are going to win this battle!
I have a feeling you'll be disappointed in other models because you'll be expecting the same amount of vapor you get with your 510. Like many others here, I did away with cartridges altogether and only drip on the atomizer. I only use the cartridge shell as a mouthpiece. I find it tastes better and gives me a better throat hit; no cartridge filler to get between me and my vape.
I think a lot of the burnt taste issues are due to the crappy batteries. Some people say their batts go from charged to empty really fast, but my experience has been the total opposite. In other words, I find it takes my batts a real long time to discharge. While this is going on, their performance severely lags and I find myself taking more and harder drags, which heats up the atomizer too much and gives me that burnt taste, but lousey throat hit. I just ordered a Chuck. It uses much better li-ion batts which supposedly give you a consistent great hit with TONS of vapor. One battery will last up to 4 days (!), and supposedly they run real strong until they need to be recharged (however, li-ion batts don't like to be run until they're totally empty, so you could use the batt for 2 days and recharge it and you'll never experience a depleted battery again). You can also get adapters and use the Chuck with 510, 801, and 901 atomizers. I haven't gotten my Chuck yet, but Chuck owners tend to rave about them. I'm really hoping it will resolve my issues.
