Did the magnets not work dream?

I'm still looking for the proper magnets.. It is kind of important to me to remain within specifications..

But, i'm happy that Silentt is going to send me some magnets that are a different size... it might temporarily hold me over.

Until then, my hunt/quest for the proper magnets continues.

I feel ya let me know if you find anything. I searched over 20 magnet sites only thing I found that looked slightly promising was custom made but they were very expensive.

I order 20 from here Gaussboys Super Magnets :: Rings :: 6mm x 3.5mm x 2mm N38 Nickel Plated Neodymium Magnet - Ring they work ok in the old style button but are to thick to put 3 in new style.

Thanks for the link Fright.
I just got 20 magnets from Gaussboys. They fit in my SSGGTS with the low profile button. With just the two magnets it really is a hairtrigger; breathe on it and it fires! I have put thin washers under the magnets, bringing the magnets closer together and creating a little more resistance.
On my GGTB with the high button i couldn't fit them. I put them on my Dremel and filed them down a bit. GGTB now works fine with three magnets.
The magnets are a very tight fit on both GG's so i hope they keep working. Even with international shipping, price is a lot better than the official GG magnets. Magnets were $2.80 for 20, and shipping was $10! Still, it's better than 15$ + shipping for one set :)

With 20 or more you should have some that are slightly below spec. That's what I do with the regular GGTS switch; select 3 and they fit fine. The low profile is a challenge and then some. I modded a couple for one set (ground them thinner so the hair trigger problem went away); but it was such a total PITA I tossed them and went back to the spring. Even with non nickel plated ones, they are very brittle and can fly apart quite easily.

Modding magnets is really not advisable for anyone; myself included..... lol

No problem glad they worked. Although I can't take credit for finding them I got the link in the repairing ggts button thread a month ago. I have them in all 3 of my GGTS also and they work fine. 493 has 3 since it is the old style button the other 2 have the hair trigger.

I am very glad that I got those magnets for the brass Slim and brass GGTB back when I did. However, I am saddened that others have to go through all these steps just to get magnets that aren't quite right. I hope that Imeo is able to find a new source for these in the correct size. A switch that does not wear out is one of the best things about the GG, unless you have a pacemaker of course.

Don't be sad on my account North. What fun would PVs be if we couldn't fiddle with them? :)
This way, I get to use my handymans toolbox: Leatherman, ducttape, Dremel and cable ties! I haven't figured out how to use ducttape and cableties on my GG's yet but thats only a matter of time :)

Duct tape makes a great durable skin for a GG especially one with less then perfect finish.

Hmm zip ties.... got me beat there.

I have 2 mark1 brass flat top switches, thanks to cappy for the heads up, i also bought 2 sets of GG magnets, 1 set fit's fine but the second set of magnets are slightly too large for the switch, i hope imeo can find another supplier as they are a great upgrade for the longer throw switches, and hopefully a new supplier can be a bit more consistent with the quality, these things aren't cheap

dont modify magnets fright because they will lose their plating and they will not make contact. But if you deside to do it then be careful not to brake them and put the sanded sides face to face inside the button's tube
Yeah man, I learned this the hard way, they dont take kindly to modification lol.

Actually taking apart those GG switches to clean or install the magnets would not be described by most as "fun", especially the first time. Although using non-powdered surgical gloves really works. My point was that GG's, especially the GGTS, are an investment and getting this option back would be great.

Not sure which button you are speaking of but the newest switch is really easy because you can use a 5mm and 10mm socket against each other.
