ive never been further west than Dallas, im getting ready to fly to California in a few months and drive back and im looking to take a scenic route and see the grand canyon and some other stuff as well, you have any suggestions
You my friend are in for a treat of grand proportions. The country out this way is so open that on a good day you really can see for a hundred miles or more. The Grand Canyon is a must but take a trip a few short miles to the Navajo Reservation and you will be transported into a completely different world. Also if you can swing it you have to hike or take a donkey ride down into the canyon to Havasupai. Since you'll be around the Four Corners you should take a stop there so you can stand in 4 states at once. Then off you go to all the Anasazi ruins like Chaco Canyon. If you make it south you'll have to check out Tubac just below Tucson and don't forget to go see Tombstone and Mt. Lemon. There are desert tortoises the size of German Shepherds that you might luck up on and the Saguaro cactus are truly amazing to behold. Most of all don't forget to keep looking up at night, you can see so much up there and you might even see a UFO or two.
Go to your bookstore and find a travellers guide full of pictures and info and just check off everything you'd like to see and do. There is so much to get into out this way that I can't even begin to suggest stuff for you to take a look at. Eat plenty of our tortillas and chilis and sopapillas and biscochitos, just eat everything that looks tasty to you.
Thanks for liking Kcos. There are many many beautiful decrepit old barn and buildings around my backyard so I'm sure you'll see more as time goes by.
