Hi all. Some of you have seen this Alu #358 in the pictures wanted thread but just wanted some opinions. I like it, I just got it a week ago or so in a trade with a friend. I cleaned it up and polished it then buffed it up as best I could and what a difference it made. I was going to take it to a local shop and have it PvD coated but hate to think that I would ruin a potential # that some may see as collectible. If I traded it I'd want to try and get a # around it but in SS. Here's a few pics that I took today. I also have a alu collector tank with nickel base and nickel control ring. Nickel looks ok w/ a couple small chips but I think it's hard to keep coating on knurling.

From what I have seen the nickel's didn't start showing up until the #900 range.

Most the nickel's I have seen pics of and posted for sale were in the 900 serial range and above to the end of the GGTS run.

My two 600 range GGTS' are all aluminum and all original.

Imeo could tell us exactly when the nickel's were introduced, I would imagine :)

The bad thing is that I dont keep records on this but I should. But I think you are right serpent. I think that I made 3 batches of 300 aluminium ones before nickel comes to scene

I want to thank jonny for having the wisdom to hold off from coating this beauty. I'm sending him my pristine SS GGTS#613 which he wanted as well as a cash payment and will set out to return this special TS to it's original glory (Para hope you give me some advise brother)

Thank you as well Capt Steve. I opened this thread to see what the opinions were and im glad i did. Otherwise being the dummy that i am i wouldve ruined a true collectors item.

glad you could get me such a beautiful replacement Capt. This one will not be coated either so dont fret. I have a #2223 that I will be sending off to the shop for coating once i recieve #613. :)

Oh, that's quite alright, buddy. It's just another small thing to burden an already busy person and not necessary. The wiki pretty much takes care of it already. :)

Now speaking of the wiki. A quick look proves me wrong as a nickel #734 seems to exist. :D

thanks serpent:)

if 734 is aluminium, then (and because baches were almost all the time 300 pieces) then its obvious that I made 2 batches, so total of aluminium are 600.
