So a while back I tried a run at e-cigs and it worked well enough. My biggest problem is that I drink a lot and when drinking the cigarette craving is so heavy that I would end up chain vaping until I got a headache. I had a joye 510 and I enjoyed the form factor, but I gave it away when I gave up on vaping.

I see that most people are into the e-go and the go-go right now. What I'm taking from my reading is that the big benefit is the capacity of the cartomizers and the battery.

There is so much to read up on now that I'm a bit lost.

I get that the go-go is a proprietary system and the e-go isn't what does the e-go offer that the go-go doesn't.

My personal needs in an e-cig are consistent quality hits, a device that can hold up to some chain vaping if I do get a bit too liquor happy, and a nice throat hit that feels close to a cigarette.

I own both the joye 510, and the eGo. I bought the eGo first, and love it. However, I like an e-cig that looks like a cigarette when I go out, and use my joye510 for that.

My eGo uses the same 510 hardware. I find that when I have the same atomizer and cartridge switched between the two, I get a bigger hit from my eGo. The quality of the hit from both my 510 and eGo is largely dependant on the quality of my atomizer used. But when I'm out, I'm constantly charging my 510 to keep it going all night, while my eGo's usually last me about a day each on a charge. Much leass hassle, slightly bigger hit.

I basically carry both. I use manual 510's but carry a charged Riva (Ego clone) 750mah battery with me and it acts as both battery backup and for bigger hits when I want bigger hits. I am using standard resistance cartos so i can use them on the slim 510 but the Riva can get a bigger hit out of them. It is possible the new Riva 510s are all real 3.7v - unclear if they all are or just the Riva 510 SE (see Liberty Flights and click 20% off on front page. they have Egos too).

Anyway - works for me. if you want bigger hits enough you won't care how your ecig looks, especially if you've been drinking right? And the Ego/Riva can use LR attys and cartomizers for even hotter hits. Some people vape stronger taste/aroma liquids when drinking, You could also use lower nic so you can chain vape. I think even 12mg would give decent TH in an LR carto - use a high PG juice like 80og/20vg. Cartos would be good for that - self-contained. You could have a couple that are for when you are drinking.

Based on the above, you are looking for a good 5 volt or variable volt PV. The best throat hit and consistency comes from better battery devices, not the 3.7 volt options. I would recommend either the 5 volt GLV2 from Great Lakes Vapor or for variable volt, the Darwin from nhaler.com.

+1 on both of these .....for some other vv options check out notcigs, the buzz pro and infinity pro should hit the market very soon if they havent already...

also look at the ProVari not a bad mod but a bit heavy for some...

So if I have this right I'm not going to be getting a better hit from the ego I'll just be getting more battery life? So if I want to get a better hit I need to be using a low resistance atty or cartomizer.

I'm a little wary dropping over $100 on the glv-2 and even more so on the darwin. are there any other recommended variable voltage mods that are on the cheap?

To the best of my knowledge the big difference is in the cartomizer. The gogo has a huge carto so I would say if you like to change flavors a lot go with the ego. If you mostly stick with the same flavors you might want the gogo but.... echo has a new cartomizer that is huge like the gogos but comes in different threadings including 510... So you could get the ego, get a couple echo-e cartos (they're supposed to be good to around 100 fills) and some regular cartos and have the best of both worlds.

If you're one of the rare people who prefer automatic batteries you could just ditch them both and get an echo (which I think has a 901 thread) but I think they're sold out of stock right now.

If money is a concern, then I would suggest you check out Ken's Box Mods. I have his 5 volt PV and it does a great job and costs $37. He also has two variable volt PV's that I believe are in the $60 - $70 range. LR attys are better than regular atty's at 3.7 volts BUT they don't hold up as well. In the long run, based on what you are looking for, you will get much better performance from a 5 volt or VV PV. Here is Ken's site and he is well supported on ECF:
