I have rebuilt the coils on my mini protank 2 a few times now. I haven't used cotton in them yet but having used cotton on my RDA i think it is totally doable. The Cottonman emailed me back and says he has been working on getting some organic cotton. Organic still has pesticides albeit organic non-synthetic ones like AndriaD wrote about a few posts up. He gave me a list of the pesticides he uses in his regular cotton and it is a pretty long list. I am not sure if boiling and or soaking in alcohol removes them but I don't know. It might be just fine. I am still using it along with silica. Haven't messed with mesh yet. I am going to look into ceramic with a low use of lead or none at all if available.

As far as risks and safety, nothing is risk free and it is all better than cigarettes. But that doesn't mean that we can't keep trying to find the safest option available. I have a sensitive respiratory system and throat. When I was a smoker my asthma would flare up and I would have to take steroids for a week or so. I also would get semi regular throat infections. All that has gone away since I started vaping. With this in mind I am still seeking out the safest wick material as a precaution. It seems to be a logical thing for me considering my prior issues.

In the end I am happy that vaping is in my life. I never want to smoke another cigarette ever again. And as long as I can vape I can say without a doubt that I never will. And as I have said like 3x in this thread, the miniscule risks are work the greater reward.

To each his own I suppose. I do wish you the best! As for me, I smoked 2 packs a day for 25 years and I'm not going to be quitting vaping! Even if I vape all day long I can still breathe better than with smoking. I am no longer wheezing, and my cough is almost all gone. For me the proof is "in the pudding" so to speak. In other words since vaping my lung function has improved drastically! So many positive things health wise has happened for me! I know my body and I'm not going to be deterred by what ifs. In my case what if the cotton isn't good for me? Well its sure a whole heck of a lot better than tobacco was for me! I see the positives and know how my body feels. I'm not going to get hung up on a miniscule amount of hydrogen peroxide that likely burns off any way. For me vaping IS a healthier option. Plus I really enjoy it! So basically I know I'm doing better for my body by vaping. But if it's not for you, then it's not for you. That's ok too. But don't forget the positive things it IS doing in others lives like mine. I wish you the best.

So much hate just because someone said they wanted to quit. Noone is telling anyone else here to quit. As far as I know, the peroxide would have all evaporated out by the time the cotton is dry. (I use organic cotton balls) Anyway, The op never said that smoking was healthier than vaping, so I dont know why so many butthurt people are coming back to that. If vaping is such a big part of your life that someone wanting to quit offends you, then get something else in your life. Starting or stopping vaping or smoking is a personal choice. As this is supposedly a community for vapers, it is fitting that people should be able to discuss quitting. I hope to wean myself off of vaping over the next few months. I personally dont see inhaling nicotine as fulfilling hobby, for me its a practical method to quit smoking, and I dont want my cessation method to last my whole life - or I might as well have just kept smoking.

I made a similar point on the previous page, but it just occurred to me to consider that since vaping is already the target of ferocious attacks in a way that is only going to get worse, quick-triggered defenses aren't always going to be unwarranted.

It's good to be sharp and ready, we just need a more reliable IFF, that's all. ;)

I would prefer to engage criticism with respect and not label anyone as a foe. Maybe its because I live in Canada, but here and on my travels in Europe I have not seen any ferocious attacks (or any form of suppression) on vaping... are ejuice or equipment banned somewhere in the states? EDIT: It seems like the only 'bans' are indoor usage bans. I personally agree that you shouldn't smoke or vape in a public indoor space. Maybe that makes me an enemy. (Though "private" establishments like hookah lounges, vaping bars etc. should be allowed I think.)

In my experience, a quick trigger finger just leads to wounds and a prison sentence.

I notice that you are a CASAA supporter. They promote "smokeless tobacco" as a safe alternative to smoking. Having grown up in a rural area, I have seen a few people, and known a few people who have lost part of their face from chewing. How do you feel about this organizations stance on that?

Hence the need for the better IFF. If someone is actually coming at me with ill intent, though, I hope my trigger finger is in hyper drive.

If they do, then that's where we differ. If anyone wants to smoke, dip, take tobacco enemas or wear pipe tar in their hair, I wouldn't oppose it as long as non-smokers, children, and non-smokers who act like children (like me) don't have to be exposed to tobacco byproducts like second-hand smoke. Or enema splash. :?:

But I do hope that one day soon, cigarettes, smokeless tobacco and any other variation of tobacco products will be extinct.

My goals are as follows...

Short term: Ensure that the laws for vaping are fair and logical, and to make it clear to lawmakers and to the public that vaping is NOT smoking, and therefore should not be treated as such.

Long term: Do whatever is necessary to make tobacco products of all kinds go the way of 8-track tapes, because - to my knowledge - nothing good for humanity comes from them.

Well, they do: Smokefree Types , and they go so far as to claim that chewing, dipping, and snorting it have no known health effects. This is completely contrary to the known dangers of oral tobacco. Even the research papers they link to as proving this contention show that it causes cancer.

This group puts vaping in the same class as snuff and chew ("harmless"), so I would be hesitant to believe they have any good intent when it comes to promoting or 'protecting' vaping.

As a firearms owner, I do not support the NRA or their Canadian equivalent and I do support gun control and licensing (not registration though.) As a vaper I support regulation for the interests of public safety and vaper safety. Will anyone ever ban the sale of ejuice or vaping equipment before banning tobacco sales? I highly doubt it.

I have a very serious problem with this mindset! Prohibition is a very real fear that is being expressed by many vapers in different threads. I don't agree with ANY prohibition because basically it is someone, or some group, or some government believing that they have the right to control what another does with their own body, by whatever means necessary:evil:

I know its a very real fear, but I've yet to see any evidence that prohibition of vaping should be feared. What government is going to say ban vaping when smoking is so prevalent and known (lets face it, suspected) to be much worse. If they start outright banning tobacco, then it might be a good time to start fearing.

My point was that a person can think it's OK to get rid of a thing they see as undesirable to them by any means necessary, who gave anyone the right to decide what anybody should or should not be allowed to enjoy. There are millions of smokers, there always will be, same with drinking, gambling etc. Nobody has the right to cherry pick what vices they deem acceptable or not, I don't even give the government that right, I see this as a personal liberty issue.

Have to find organic cotton that is marketed to be free from pesticides, dyes, and bleach. If anyone finds cotton yarn to those specifications, that fits in a mini protank 2, I will wire you $50 to a paypal account of your choosing. (I crossed my fingers on that $50 dollar remark )

As for the nano particles, the source on wikipedia says that it happens from inadequately ventilated work environments, that's a lot of dust. Even if you put a cotton wick in a clearo and just puffed on it with no juice would you think that there's enough of any particles to amount to anything? I know you're saying there isn't a way of knowing what's being inhaled but it can't be much, especially compared to a poorly ventilated textile factory.

Pesticides and hydrogen peroxide leeching into the juice and then being heated (vaped) concerns me personally more than cotton dust.

ECOBUTTERFLY ORGANICS pakucho worsted certified organic cotton... been using for a while now and its great.... researched for 6 hours online and got lots of double speak and no good info... then i found ecobutterfly... good luck...

To the OP, assuming you're still checking in on this thread...

If you're OK with using either cotton or hemp and are only concerned about the pesticides or chemicals added during processing, why not grow your own? My understanding is that cotton is a fairly hardy plant and can be grown throughout the US (maybe indoors if you live up north). Sure, it'll take a while to get going, but once you've got it, you've got it.

I suppose it all boils down to motivation or dedication :)

Does anyone remember an old cartoon about two chemists going out for dinner? I can't find it but the dialogue goes as follows:

Waiter: Gentlemen, what would you like to drink?

1st Chemist: I'll have a glass of H2O.

2nd Chemist: I'll have a glass of H2O too.

The drinks arrive and they toast each other and drink up.

The second chemist keels over and dies...

If you haven't seen it, it takes a while to get it but it seems to be topical to this thread.
