Don't try to pack the cotton too tight, I've found the more I play with the cotton and pack it tightly the more that nasty cotton taste comes out. Could be completely unrelated just thought I'd share.

Will do, I tried earlier unsuccessfully which lead me to a revelation that watching these guys on youtube really messes up my scale of things, so I added WAAAY too much cotton the first or second time I cannot remember. Would you recommend me going in there with my ceramic tweezers and loosening things up? Everytime I hit this thing I just keep thinking I should rebuild the same .8 resistance and rid myself of this cotton, my first impressions are very depressing.

With cotton I've found less is more, make sure the cotton can loosely travel back and forth inside the coil and make sure you are not blocking the coil itself from the airhole. Small amounts of loose fitting cotton works just fine as long as you make sure it's always wet to avoid dry hits.

I'm always amazed to see posts like this. People who just cannot deal with an rba really puzzle me. I had that down pat in a couple days, rolling my own mesh wicks, coiling them and enjoying a great vape. One would think they could make use of YouTube and these forums (as I did) and get it right, but apparently there are some who, even with those resources, just cannot build an rba, and the RSST is the easiest of them to set up that I've found. If you can't manage that I just don't know what to tell you.

Its not for everyone. My hubby has no interest and truthfully from my own making only kayfun likes with cotton have been worth the effort to me. I have gotten hits off of awesomely built mesh and wire builds and cannot for the life of me duplicate. If it isn't fun I don't do it. All that matters is your health and you are getting what you need.

PS - I learned most sitting with a dude named Watch. He was super sweet and answered all my questions. If you can get to a decent BM or vape meet that might help. Peeps learn different ways :)

also it seems like cotton has a nasty taste? using 365 organic cotton from whole foods.

I use organic cotton from CVS. I don't boil it. One thing I do is wash my hands before I roll my wicks. Any nasty grease, etc can get into the cotton.

Also I do get an off taste for the first few hits. But nothing past 5-10 hits.

If you are constantly getting a bad taste after 20+ hits lets say, something else is wrong. Either too much cotton, or bad air flow.

Back in the day, I couldn't get a good build on my RSST despite numerous attempts.

Your disparaging remarks to the OP are not really helpful.

I am very interested as well to find out what mod you're using, and what is actually going wrong with your builds. Please give us more info so we can help you! I promise if you get it right you will be amazed.

And do you have something to read the resistance of your coils? All regulated mods have a limit of how low the resistance can be. I'm wondering if that is your issue

Burnt cotton tastes nasty, try less cotton or take a couple of primer puffs. I haven't had any nasty taste from cotton, except for when I burn it.

coiling isn't that difficult, wicking can be though. Like some other member said: It should be loose within the coil, It should easily slide to and fro. Try this calculator for finding the total wraps for preferred ohm: Coil wrapping | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators Get someone showing you, if you don't manage after watching videos. Kayfun is one of the easiest rba out there. :) If I manage, so do you!
Good luck!

I find that I am not into the whole drip and coil and blah blah blah myself. It just seems like too much work. My daughter does all that. I just want to put some juice in and put something in my mouth. I'm sure I will eventually get into it but at this point...I'm new so I guess I'm okay

I've been a straight up vaper for 2 years now. . . protanks, evods, ce4s, LR attys, cartos, you name it.

I've been told that flavor and vapor and overall performance is better with RBAs and RDAs. . .

Spent over $300 on 2 Kayfuns 2 Smoktech RSSTs with air flow caps, Ithaka, UDB, Caterpillar, IGOs, etc . . .

Watched countless videos on wrapping coils, rolling mesh, etc . . .

AFTER 6 MONTHS OF PRACTICE AND TRYING, NONE OF IT WORKS AT ALL . . . ITS NOT AS EASY AS THEY CLAIM . . . IT IS A TASK AND A BURDEN . . . NOT ONE SUCCESSFUL COIL

Ridiculous if you ask me . . . waste of time, waste of money . . .

So, I guess I'll never have that "great vape" and "great flavor" I'm told I will have with an RDA or RBA . . . too many "secrets" don't want to be shared . . .

whatever . . . :(

just invest some time here on this thread and we'll help you out, post some pics of what you are doing and your builds, I'm sure that in no time you will have great results

I agree. I want it to work the first time, every time. I don't want to play with stuffs I want to vape it. I have several mechanical mods and a Reo. I use the drippers on the mechanicals to taste new juice and to vape at home. I use the Reo and Kayfun to sit back and just vape or watch TV or whatever. The Reo is totally unbelievable. No muss, no fuss, no drips, no gurgles.

I get frustrated with clearos, cartos and hate replacing heads as frequently as I have to in order to get decent vaping. I have been vaping with the Reo very heavily for about a month. I am on the original coil. Every couple days, I take the cotton out, dry burn the coil and get it all nice and clean and then I add fresh cotton...vaping heaven! Cost? Heck I don't know. I have yet to go through one cotton ball or over 2 feet of kanthal with all the drippers, the Kayfun and the Reo. And I have not gotten to the end of my first cotton ball!!! Cheap, easy and delicious. Better than any clearo or carto ever thought of being.

I learned to coil so I could use the Kayfun and Reo. I use a 'jig' but can wrap a coil free hand with a paperclip or needle tip on a juice bottle. I am a clutz with fibromyalgia and tendonitis in both thumbs. It just isn't that hard. It is frustrating at first. I watched so many youtube videos my eyes were crossed but they helped. People laugh at Rip Tripper but I love his videos!!

I am getting ready for any future regulations and getting the most simple set ups I can find. Kanthal? Cotton? Easy peasy. I don't boil and I don't buy organic. It is great after a couple hits to break it in. I will also be DIY for my juice in the near future. I think this is the trend due to the upcoming regulations.

I am too long winded...AGAIN. Good luck. It is worth the frustration. Now, you can also rebuild all your regular Protank heads and save yourself oodles of money and be prepared for the regulations that way as well.

Good luck and vape on!

Either OP is busy and will check back later or he/she really does not want to learn how to do it. Hopefully he ranted and now he will be settled down enough to talk about his problems. Lots of good advice here!

I just revisited my Nimbus Authentic RDA the one I just wrapped, it seems as that flavor I didn't like is fading, Ill keep it updated as to if it changes. How often do I change the cotton, every coil re wrap? to me it just seems a lot of hype on organic cotton, which I got for flavor which seems to be either I have terrible juice, or that I am tasting cotton itself. Silica seems like the superior product for all around application.

I use first aid cotton that has a bit of hydrogen peroxide on it. I can taste that fairly strong for about a dozen hits and it's completely gone by 2 dozen. I would have thought organic cotton would loose its flavor quicker, but I've never tried it.

Sometimes I change the cotton wick every time I dry burn the coil and sometimes I put it back once for another go. I tend to dry burn the coil about every 6 ml of gunky juice and about 12 ml if it's clean juice. My 27 gauge Kanthal coils last a long time. I estimate about 70 ml of juice. What happens is it gets brittle and breaks after a while.

I have no scientific basis for the following caveat. I have heard, and I believe, that vaping something with hydrogen peroxide on it, or the residual left behind, is less than optimum for ones respiratory system. I use cosmetic cotton balls, not sterile first aid ones. I don't really know if they are better, just don't want H2O2 in my lungs. Now, I need to double check to make sure they are not treated cotton balls. Pewp. Ya just can't be careful enough I guess.

The new rage is the cosmetic pads from Japan (I believe that is right) that are 100% organic, pure cotton. I was thinking of grabbing the cotton left over when a field is harvested but then I figured I would get all the pesticides. So I buy cosmetic cotton and call it good.

my first guess is you're probably using the 30 or 32 gauge wire that is usually used for those small atomizers on protanks, evods etc.
People talk about rda's and rba's but usually don't mention that because of the bigger space you can use thicker 28 gauge wire, which is what makes a big difference.

Another difference is using the cotton wicking; when you order the rda or rba, its probably going to come with silica wick or steel mesh

I don't understand the problem, please explain. My very first coil worked, looked like a two year old did it while standing on their head but it worked just fine.

*snicker* Mine still look like that sometimes, but they all manage to work at least half-a$$ed. It's definitely the wicking that's the hard part. So I just keep trying and trying, sometimes it's great, sometimes definitely not, so I go back into it and do it again.

And no, building a coil isn't that hard... *connecting* it, well that's a horse of a different color, but now that I have a vise, not nearly as hard as it was.

If you want help w/that I'm sure many people here will step in and help ya.

However, I just want to make sure that you are bound and determined that ONLY using RBA RDA will give you nice vaping experience.

I say this because my eyesight, and hand coordination due to arthritis, makes wrapping coils way way too much hassle for me, yet i am almost 2 years vaping happily along w/out any of that stuff. :)

Just mentioning this because I'm sure there are many more like me, vaping away w/out it. Is the other stuff better.....probably, but for me it would not be. The work involved versus the % of pleasure I'd receive isn't a good "wager" for me. :)
