Glass Vs. Plastic

With the large number of flavors that are said to deteriorate and crack plastic glearomizers, why are people still using these? I have a couple going still from before I found out about the large number of flavorings that react with the plastic... but I am moving to use only glass or SS atomizers.

Any thoughts or comments? Are you using plastics still? It seems to be fairly restrictive on the DIY movement.

Products made of glass are more expensive and more difficult to make by the manufacturers, so they have to charge more than the plastic products. Many vapors choose what they use based on price, so they will buy the plastic ones over the glass ones. Many vaping novices are unaware that some flavors can destroy plastic juice attachments.

Polycarbonate plastic is the material that is succeptible to cracking/melting. It is cheap and easy to form into shapes for manufacturers to use. Polypropylene (frosted or opaque) has a different chemical bond and is immune to the flavors that crack/melt polycarbonate, however it is difficult to mold into the shapes that common clearomizers use.

More customers are demanding products made of glass, and a few manufacturers have listened. The last year has seen a doubling of the products made of glass.

Something Safe for Cinnamon & Citrus Flavors

The above blog link describes why certain flavors destroy polycarbonate, shows a video of a tank melting after exposure, has a list of flavors known to cause this phenonemon, and many recommendations of attachments which are safe to use with the caustic flavors.

Wow that's scary. Thanks for linking that thread and everyone else for the comments.

I have been vaping for over two years, and until I tried the Evod a few months ago , I had no interest in clearomizers ... I always thought they were ugly, and I had heard too many stories of leaking, and cracking.

So I am with you, I never quite understood the attraction to what seems like a very problematic juice delivery system ... I will say that I like the Evod, both in terms of performance, and its slightly better aesthetics ... but for the most part, I am all about the pyrex baby!

Does anyone have a cheap clearomizer product suggestion that is Polypropylene that will fit an ego twist? Has there been any known issues with plastic dropper bottles?

Evods are dirt cheap on Fasttech.com ... But I don't think they are polypropylene ... I have used cinnamon flavors in the Evod and have not had any issues. Not sure if the metal sleeve over it makes a difference, but no cracks here.

The plastic dropper bottles are made from a frosted plastic probably very similar to polypropylene, if it isn't polypropylene. No worries about the juices breaking down this type of plastic.

I don't know of any polypropylene clearomizers. They all are either polycarbonate or glass.

I suggest looking into the Smoktech Aro clearomizers or the mini Protanks for a smallish glass clearomizer. You can purchase replacement coil heads for both to increase the usefulness of the entire tank.

Evods are dirt cheap on Fasttech.com ..

Not polypropylene. These are polycarbonate.

I realized that after posting, and corrected/added to the comment. ;-)

Not all Cinnamon nor Citrus Flavors are tank crackers. The metal sleeve makes no difference; if the flavor is volatile to polycarbonate it will melt or crack the windows.

Thanks, after thinking about the clearomizer deterioration I quickly started thinking about my dropper bottles but hadn't found a description of the compounds used on the sellers website... not that I should really have that expectation.

I do have a protank 2 now, and a protank mini in the mail, but I like to have multiple tanks or clearos going at the same time. I haven't had any issues thus far with polycarbonate clearos, but I would rather like to more freely experiment with flavor combos without worry.

For many people, myself included, the make/brand of e-juice being used doesn't react with plastic, so its not really an issue. I may be overthinking this one, but I personally wouldn't want to vape any e-liquids that are strong enough to melt a plastic tank to begin with.

I do recall that some of the juices I've tried in the past that had a strong, perfumey/chemical aftertaste caused my iclear16's to fog up after a day or two. I tossed the juice out because of the bad flavor, but the fogging of the tank was reason for me to not try other flavors from that vendor.
