Why dont they evacuate ... Isteas of keeping them in a school buiding:confused:

I wonder the same considering there were reports the 4th and 5th graders were evacuated and the 3rd graders were not, but details are still pretty hazy right now. I've heard earlier the tornado was nearly a mile wide at points though, it's hard to outrun something like that when it comes on so fast. Really crazy though, there have been a few tornadoes in Jersey lately, which is... well, weird, but I can't imagine what it's like living in a place like OKC where I guess this is pretty commonplace, even if not on this scale.

There literally is nowhere to evacuate TO. If you are lucky you have 10 minutes warning. All you can do is get to the most tornado safe part of the building and pray.

Every school I have taught at has a procedure the only change is WHERE they tell you to go depending on hte way the building is made.

It's terrible! I don't watch the news but saw about it on FB.... no wonder Kayte's been crying all day :(

My son lives in Oklahoma! Thank goodness they are all ok.

I'm so happy that they are okay Dale, so very happy! I hope that any of our family here on ECF that's out there are okay as well. I think that I will be crying with Kayte tonight. :(

Unlike hurricanes, where residents are given many days of warning, tornadoes spawn and hit in a matter of minutes. The residents know they live in a tornado-prone part of the country, but nobody can expect them to stop their lives, and stay in hiding, because of the rare chance of a storm as bad as today.

Earth is a dangerous place and we only have two choices: understand that and live the best life we can, or cower in fear.

I send prayers and hugs to all the families that have lost loved ones today in these storms. I cannot imagine exactly what they are going through, but I have been a FL East Coast resident since 1956 so understand the devastation and loss from hurricanes.

Oklahoma - as always, the rest of the US has your back, and we will help you get through this. Red Cross drives are already going on in my area. Stay strong, hug your family, and know that we love you.
