going low ohm on old reos

i find myself going lower and lower with the resistance of my coils and i'm wondering if there is any danger in going to about 0.6/0.7 ohms on an older reo. this one does not have the new insides. i have a reomizer 2 and some other clone atty which i don't know the name of. my batteries can do 18 amps. does anyone know what is the lowest i can build without causing a safety issue?

I guess you will know if your spring drops on the mod or your button melts if nothing else.

Besides all that you may have arching on the older contacts and pits on the tops of your battery from it.. you'll know you have that issue if your spinning your battery to get it to fire.

The lower you go the more it will arch.

New gold contacts,spring and button that won't melt in the kit is prob where ya wana go.. I hear people going around .2 -.3 ohms.

To upgrade that reo to the new sub ohm kit is like $25.. best to just send it in for the master to swap them out as it can be a pain.. easier if one had the newer ss adjustable 510 connection.

I'd advise upgrading that at the same time.. though after all that your talking prob around $50+.. though you should ask.

Whatecer ya do.. upgrade the contact or just order a new reo.. you would want to also get new button top batteries.. aw 1600mah or the 2200mah.. though I hear the 1600s are higher amp rated.

You don't want to mess up brand new contacts with pitted batteries as it will arch and screw up the new gold contacts.. you want perfect new gold contacts with new butter smooth button top batteries for a perfect free of arching contact that will last.. as long as you use deoxit gold on the gold contacts.

All true, but I'm not sure it's an issue at that range - I run 0.5 to 0.7 all day every day - no pitting, no arcing, no nuthin. I do like the new 510 (got 'em on my woodies) so I'd send it in IF I saw any of the above - but I haven't.

In my testing the 1600mAh AW was a solid 24A battery. The 220mAh only tested out as a 15A battery but the 3000mAh was a solid 20A. Not sure if you can get the 3000mAh as a button-top though.

Crazy the aw 2200 is rated at 20amp.. not that I'm even close keeping my ohms at around 1ohm.

AW might have decided the higher operating temperature at 20A was OK. They're usually quite good about the ratings. In my testing though, when compared to the temps of other batteries at their rating, the 2200mAh ran too hot at 20A to be used as the rating.

I do have the old contacts and run at .7ohms with no problem. I use VTC4's normally.
There are also ways to change your build to achieve what you want without continuing to reduce resistance. Below is a twisted 30ga infinity coil. 12 wraps on a 2mm (I think) Allen wrench. Comes out to 1.5 ohms. This is a series coil, so unlike the more common dual parallel coil, this one doubles the resistance of each coil (actually is one coil so it uses the total resistance of that coil). Takes a minute to heat up, but gives great flavor and vapor production.

I used to run the old contacts at .7ohms all day long. Regular maintenance was all it took to keep everything tip top - noalox applied about every week, a thorough wash every 2-3 weeks (shocking, I know, to some of you OCD types ), cleaned the contacts every 6-8 weeks.

At that resistance, a battery rated for 15amps continuous or better would be fine (you're drawing 6 amps).

The new gold contacts are better, but not absolutely needed (heck, we've only had them for, what, about a year?).

Was just giving my opinion on the old contacts, Reo user for over 3 years. I thought it was a joke that people like Gdeals got thrown out this piece. Looks like y'all catch me on Reddit, VU, and other places where free speech is allowed.

Didn't cuss or say anything bad. Just downright censorship. Nice to know you get censored for saying something a Mod doesn't like without a reason.
