Going the rebuildable and mech mod route

when i started with mech mods i bought a stainless steel mod for 80 bucks. i was very disatisfied due to a .5 volt drop across coil. if i made a coil below 1 ohm the vape wasn't any good. so i bought a grand vapor clone, though it had a very low drop and worked good there was no quality in the mod. bottom firing button keeps coming loose. was easy to cross thread atty. more money wasted and i got tired of dripping. really wasn't good or practical to leave home with. then i bought a used reo grand in the classifieds on here, and i been so satisfied with it and the rm2 i've never looked back. though it has some voltage drop it gives a great vape with a 10 wrap micro coil 26 guage and cotton wick. running at .9 ohms. easy to clean and has to be the easiest atty to build a coil on cause there is so much room between the posts. my only regret is the money i wasted till i found what i want and needed to stay off cigs! the only money i spend now is for juice. and i been buying some top notched stuff!

You're not the first person that has said they regret not finding the REO sooner, to avoid the money wasted before on other kit. I heard this from another REO owner in South Africa too. Interesting...

On another note, I really like your signature banner. Well done for avoiding real cigs for 228 days! Impressive achievement. What intrigues me is that it says 10,282 analogs have been avoided. And that $514 has not been spent. This would mean a cost of only $1 per pack of 20 cigs. Is that what cigs cost on your side? Here in SA they are about $3 per pack.

I love RBAs and RDAs, but I personally will never get a mech mod. I would rather pay the price for a DNA20 than risk blowing a battery or burning down the house. I know what I'm doing with batteries and electricity, but I don't need my kid unscrewing the lock on a mech mod and tossing it in the bed. Maybe its because I'm a firefighter, but I like those safety features.

I started of with Ego and Evod MT3's to then go V/W V/V with a Vamo and Vivi 2.5 after reading lots and watching youtube videos on rebuilds etc, went with a UDTv-9 & Kick2 with AGI and a Igo-W since then i can say a descent set up on the AGI can't be beaten for taste especially with wire mesh so not subtle taste of silica in the mix, i was scared of the learning curve needed but now can string together a coil in the Igo-W in no time at all since tasting allot of 1 ml samples with organic cotton.

IGO-W is larger and has holes through centre post so is easier than wrapping around a screw they now have the IGO-W4 to which is larger base than the IGO-W so more room to play in.

When you have a rebuild able there will always be instruction on YouTube watch them and take in in small chunks you can always do a build while pausing and digesting, also a tool i find well handy is an ohm tester as can be used as a build bed saves fumbling in figures or building ontop of a mod.

Thanks, will check out the IGO-W4. As for the ohm tester - yes, I have seen coil builders using those. And a few folk here locally have also said they make for good bases to build on. There is a local supplier here in SA that sells something very similar. I will have to get one.

your the first person to ask me that so ill explain. a pack of analogs cost 5.50 here in kentucky now. but u can roll ur own with a machine and pipe tobacco and tubes with filters on them for a dollar a pack. i smoked 2.5 packs a day so i filled in the info to show what i was spending.

well it might have saved money, but it cost over 500 bucks just to get my teeth cleaned to get the tar stains off after i quit! i sure wouldn't recommend it to anyone. a lot more tar in pipe tobacco! teeth were a mess. god only knows what my lungs looked like!

Hey Silver,
I see you have a lot of good responses already but I will chime in with my experience. I was once in a very similar situation, I had used pro tanks, vivi's and such but was not very pleased with the performance. On top of that I'm very hard on things so I was breaking ego's and tanks and such left and right. I decided to get a mechanical mod with and AGA-T2 tank. Initially it took some time to get it set up right with metering the coils and what not but now I spend less time fiddling with my mech then I did replacing coils on my vivi and other similar setups. This set up has let me down only once and that was because after numerous drops my pyrex tank cracked and leaked juice, but I put my rig through a lot. I would recommend getting a mech and getting it set up well, once you do you shouldn't have to spend much time on it unless you want to.

Hi ryanmacl, i agree. Vaping is expensive, especially in the early stages, trying out the equipment and the juices. Been 50 days for me so far and i fear that the "trying out" phase is going to last a long, long time. LOL.

Fortunately, my better half doesnt mind me spending the cash, since she sees the benefits.

To those that replied to my original post, thanks so much for sharing your comments and suggestions. I have enjoyed it and have learnt a lot.

What i find interesting is that there was very little comment on how much better the vape experience is using a rebuildable. Flavour, throat hit, intensity wise.

Are we talking double as good? Or just a bit better? (Than a standard Protank2 for example)

Hey Silver, nice to see another SA guy here. I am from KZN. Been Twisping for 6 weeks now. Smoked for 30 years. Haven't touch a cigarette since the first vape! Awesome stuff. I see you talk about some other makes available in SA? The Twisp is ok, but I need a bit more vapor and flavor I think. I see people talking about making their own liquid, and 100's of different e-cigs available. O yeah, by the way, I find the apple flavor to be awesome.

I can comment on the kayfun rebuildable. Since I got it, my protanks and such don't get used. The flavor just isn't near as good. I get more flavor, vapor and the throat hit is way stronger. I had to lower my nicotine level down to 9 mg. Hope this helps. Lovin my kayfun.

Thanks for your comment. Appreciate that. That's what I'm trying to get to understand. But I suppose the only way is for me to try it out. Will be trying out something pretty soon. Was that the Kayfun or Kayfun Lite? Was it the original or a clone?
