Hey MJ!

Welcome to ECF. Do yourself a favor and read the following threads. First one's 6 parts but well-worth your time to read. It's going to help you big time to make a well-informed purchase.

You're going to be bombarded with lots of model #'s and you won't have the foggiest idea what they even look like.

The 510 seems to be overrepresented, so you may get a skewed impression that it's head-and-shoulders above everything else...not so. The popular KR808D-1 is every bit as good as the 510 and perhaps more user friendly.

Likewise the eGo seems to be overrepresented. It IS a great unit, but there are other comparables out there that are less expensive and may outperform the eGo. I love my 510's and eGo's, but just bought Rivas based on my research.

Best wishes and good hunting.

One suggestion I have as a fellow newbie is that lower nicotine levels may be better for you. If you smoked a pack a week, you'll likely find yourself vaping more than you smoked and you don't want to end up getting too much nicotine. I found that 6mg and 12mg works well for me. The 510 works well for me, since I work from home I alternate between two batteries. I charge one while using the other. My next investment will def by a PCC case

OK, might as well throw the KR808 and E liquids to the list of not knowing what is what

I have a KR808D-1, the VaporKing from Vapor4Life. I love it. It's easy to use and they have a wide variety of juices in many different nicotine levels. The XL manual batteries last up to 8 hours between charges, depending upon how much you vape.

I know that a lot of people are recommending the 510 and I'm not sure why it has so many people who love it. To me, it sounds like a bit of a nightmare with atty problems and terrible battery life. The Ego sounds like a much better idea than the basic 510.

Don't discount the KR808D-1. I haven't smoked since my first vape with one of these and I'd highly recommend it for anyone who doesn't want to have to spend a lot of time tinkering with a 3-piece e-cig. No worries about atomizers because the 2-piece KR808's come with a cartomizer, so the atomizer is built in. People will say that it costs more to use than a 510 but I'm not sure I believe it because the atomizers are expensive.

It would be wise to take into account the personal biases here on ECF that do color what people recommend - and I don't exclude myself on this count. Read up on the differences between the 510 and the KR808 before you decide. I would not buy a 510 despite the large fan base because there are so many negative qualities to that particular e-cig. Again, that's strictly my own bias.

Whichever one you choose, it beats the heck out of smoking - and both models seem to work very well when it comes to getting people off the cigarettes, which is the most important thing.

mj79, stay away from Green Smoke, lots of hype, not much to back it, the safe cig, well it's ok if you're looking for something to carry around and not use much and there's no choices really for flavors and such. I bought both along the way and early on because I didn't do what you are doing. So that being said, keep asking questions, think you'll be very happy with your choice, what ever it turns out to be, keep in mind it's a learning curve trying to figure what works for you personally. Been almost 6 months without an analog and now mix my own at home and love vaping.

Honestly after starting off i would skip the ecig that looks just like a real cig. Performance is great at first, then after half an hour it dwindles on all models.

Go for an eGo, not really that big just a bit bigger than a cig but has a nice small size for the performance, puresmoker.com has one that comes with a regular atomizer and a low resistance atomizer. regular makes for a cooler vapor compared to a warmer vapor from the low resistance. You will get two batteries that one will probably last you all day maybe dying out during the evening/nighttime.

Grab some sample ejuice seperately at different strengths of nicotine (12mg - 24mg) to use to refill your own cartridges.

i agree. i started with the 510 unit but batts only last an hr on a slow day. thnkfully had enough $$ this week to ordaer a Riva

I would say vapor4life too. I don't currently use thier stuff now. I do keep it for back ups and I also still order juice from them. They have great customer service and I really think they ar the best thing to try for ease of use. I do use 510 things more than anything. But vapor4life got me going. I mean that as in, as far as someone needs to go if they are just vaping. I have personally become obsessed LOL.

This is what I'd do. We have many vets now that have had almost every ecig and mod that has come down the pipe and many have settled on the eGo with the low resistance atomizers for the best vapor and flavor combination.

There's a 4th of July sale going on - see here:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...brate-4th-w-dual-ego-kit-57-23-delivered.html

He also sells LR 510 attys here a 2fer: (I'd get two - ie 4 LR attys):

Nicotine Nirvana - Joye 510 Atomizers, Batteries & Accessories. Lowest Prices & Always Free Shipping!

And while you're there get some ejuice:

Nicotine Nirvana - E-Liquid Hand-Made in the USA at the lowest prices & always free shipping!

If they had a 900mAh battery of the eGo (the 900mAh batt is better than the 1000mAh just on size), I'd pick one of those up too. It goes for 8-10 hours and along with only one regular kit battery - which goes for 6 hours you'd be good for almost any 'long day out' with the two.

And if you like that set up, get a couple of eGo Cartomizers here:
TORNADO MEGA CARTOMIZERS-Black and white

They should last at least 5 hours without having to refill maybe more, ymmv.

Or you could start with a 510 kit (or a KR8), then get a pcc and a passthrough and/or skinny extra long batteries(KR8) to solve having to recharge the batteries every 2 hours and spend about the same amount of money.

first off, congratulations on wanting to make the transition over to e-cigs! i'm a noobie but was able to quit analogs as soon as i got my e-cig! =D it's a great feeling. personally, i got the joye 510 because it seems to be one of the most popular ones out right now. i love my joye 510 and would totally recommend it.

i'm vaping 26 mg nic right now which i think is a tad too much for me (i use to smoke half a pack of marlboro lights 100s & have been a smoker for 10 years) so i ordered some 18 mg nic which are flavored and hoping those work out.

definitely look up some research on here because the info here is completely invaluable.

a few tip if you want it to "feel" more similar to smoking a traditional cigarette which i've learned over the past couple of days:
- for a good throat hit, direct lung inhale don't mouth inhale. when i use to smoke cigarettes i would mouth inhale since it was so harsh, vaping feels much milder and smoother so to get that throat hit i crave sometimes i direct lung inhale and i get that satisfactory feeling of hitting a cigarette.

like i said, i'm fairly new but the throat hit was the only thing that i felt was missing and taking the experience away from feeling like a real cigarette and direct lung inhaling has helped tremendously with that. good luck and i hope you find the perfect e-cig for yourself! :D

sorry i can't help you with what the difference between a 5v or 510 kit is, but i'm more than satisfied with my 510 kit. i got the kit that included the PCC and am glad i did. one 510 battery lasts me about a day and that PCC helps me last the whole day with my two batteries that came with the kit.

Good info here.. Ill be back with more questions Im sure after I get it and its all charged up :) How long does it usually take for shipping?

it takes about a week, dont get it from anyone either, make sure it's a "true 510" or real one because there are fakes, i ordered mine without knowing, just make sure it's joyetech mine is a knock off and i looked up all the specs on mine, it's just as good as an official joye 510. only used it about 3 weeks but it's been working well, cool vapor and nice hit, not as good as the riva though, good for the money, i definately suggest the 510 over any other to start though. save :2c: get it cheap

there are 3 ways people vape the juice.
1.) cart
2.) drip
3.) dip

depending on what you end up buying, you may be able to try doing all three.
at first i wanted to just stick to the carts because they seem easier. then tried to use this blue foam mod.. after everything i tried i couldn't take the juice in my mouth, atty flooding and everything that went with that whole mess. switched over to dripping as it was quicker and less of a mess.

you may want to figure out more about the attys over kits. any ecig that is a cig shape are rated low in my book, because of the battery life. you get a pcc but then you have to carry that and an extra battery at all times when out. it gets annoying, and quick.

i have a 510 and think the world of the atty. batterys for the 510 suck. i'm actually buying some 14500 protected li-ion batteries soon. with a little modding i will no longer have to charge my battery every half hr.

knowing what i do now, i would have just got these batteries and did a mod to use them with either a 510, 808, or 901 atty.

check the mod section and you will get a bit more info as to what i'm getting at. also that section gives you a bit more info sometimes about attys and how well they vape.

now if you aren't going to be mixing your own juice. check out DIY Flavor Shack by E-Cig Smoke Store they have some of the best tasting juice i have ever tried! most times dawn will even drop in some samples for you to try out. i got a lot of things from there for my diy juice making. fast service and good prices.

$60 for the eGo? Yea Im all over that one, I cant wait! So is this sale just on the 4th?

Well, "for the holiday sale", but I'm guessing you better order now - don't forget the coupon code and quicker the better, if you're going that way. You'll have the best 'starter kit' available, imho.
