Left name anonymous. Do you think this is a good idea or better off just buying new?

buy new. Go to Liberty Flights. Use the 20% coupon. Get a riva. You'll get more for less. Plus you have the added relief of knowing it will be fixed if something goes wrong.

Just my two cents

The kit comes with 2 atomizers and 5 cartridges (filled with nasty generic marlboro flavor). Get the Boge 510 2ohm cartomizers, and he can decide whether he prefers atty/cart or cartos. For drip tip, get the 510 Delrin Type D for $1.59 Mods - Drip Tips

Thanks, where to get 36mg liquid? I want to get him stronger stuff.

Snowman, you rock.

If you're gonna get you're dad rocking e-cigs, YOU have to know about e-cigs. Reading here is great. Supplement this reading with some helpful youtube videos. You'll see forum members from ECF demonstrating and talking about e-cigs. They aren't professional sales pitches. They're real people giving you real, helpful info.

so you recommend riva over eGo or is it the same thing?

It is effectively the same thing. The Riva tends to run a little cheaper and the base model has nice conservative good looks (all black with gold accents). The parts are interchangable between the two.

Sadly, the delrin drip tips mentioned above from Liberty Flights are sold out at the moment. I think they may be getting more soon. You can get something similar from MadVapes.com at the moment. The shorter ones they sell seem to be getting better reviews.

Thank you. I will go with that just to give him an easy alternative to using an atomizer. After watching some videos it actually looks like atomizer might be easier to use than cartomizer. How often would a person that smokes all day like he does need to refill these or change them out do you think?

They are basically the same, I just got my new Riva 901 from LiberyFlights...and I love it! Very nice kit with two 750 maH batteries, two atomizers, 5 carts, and batt. charger.. I am a former 2 PAD smoker for about 40 years... and can tell you that one battery from this kit will last me all day. I got the 901 because I had a standard 901 and could use all my current equipment with my new kit... but The 510 Kit comes with the same items.. just different threads on connections...probably a bit easier to find 510 stuff..So a 510 Riva @ 29.99 is a real deal. IMO

I'm new to this as well and just ordered my first cartomizers myself (the same Boge 2.0 ones that others have recommended). With my very limited experience in mind, I think cartomizers may be the best choice for your situation. You may be able to find pre-filled ones with 36mg juice that your dad likes or, alternatively, just buy empty ones and fill them for him for the first little bit until he likes vaping and is willing to do it himself. At this point, I would think you would want to make things as easy as possible for him to remove any possible excuses he might have for wanting to go back to analogs.

Short of a fancy juice mod, I would think cartomizers would provide him the most uninterrupted vaping without him having to refill anything or change anything. You can just fill up a bunch for him and all he would have to do is change them out when one starts to run dry.

Cartridges, on the other hand, have to be topped up a lot more often. Of course, show him how to direct drip with a drip tip. It really is pretty easy to do and if he likes it, bonus!

Ok, I've been pondering this a bit and thinking about what I'd do if it were my dad.

Taking into account the heavy smoking habit and that he doesn't seem to have a strong desire to quit, I'd have to make it extremely simple for him to use and to stick with.

I'm just throwing this out there for consideration. I'm not saying "this is the only way you'll get your dad to quit smoking by using PV's"

First, I'd get him one of these with 510 threading. See it in action here. Advantage: plugs into wall, no recharging, 5 volts delivered to atty/carto with every hit.

Next, I'd get him lots of pre-filled Menthol cartomizers for the 510 with 24 mg of nicotine. Advantage: His favorite flavor, enough nicotine, ease of use. Screw it on, push the button, draw on it. Boge cartomizers are good cartos. I'd contact the owner of this business and try to arrange for a bulk discount on prefilled cartos. If he wouldn't go for it, well there are other business that sell prefilled cartos for the 510 and they all have a "contact us" button on their websites, if you get my meaning.

I'd also give my dad a coffee can or something and tell him to toss cartos in it as soon as they start tasting weak. NOT when they taste burnt. Tell him as soon as the flavor, hit, whatever, drops off, throw it in the can and screw on a new one. Why? You're gonna get some juice and refill them for him using the condom refill method. You live close by, I hope.

Anyway, that's the approach I'd probably take. If I could get my dad vaping and liking it, portable battery kits would follow. I don't know what your budget is, and I didn't take that into account. Like I said, I was just thinking "how would I do it?"

Ultimately, whichever way you go, you're doing an awesome thing by trying to help your dad. I hope you're successful.

I may be way off but as I watch videos it seems atomizers are easier to fill and last longer, no?

And where would I find one of those condoms to refill a cartridge?

Cartomizers are the atomizer + cartridge one piece units. They're designed for convenience and meant to be disposable. They can be refilled many times before the flavor gets to be "off" and should then be tossed. The trick is not to vape one totally dry. Then the wicking material gets singed and there's no fixing that.

The cartomizers come with the "condoms" on each end. You'd have plenty.

With the atomizer + cartridge, he would have to refill a number of times each day or have several filled for each day. With a cartomizer, he would have to fill much fewer times in a day. I am using the new XL clearomizers and I refill once per day now and sometimes can go longer depending on how much I vape. It is really nice to see when I am actually getting low on juice instead of guessing and over-filling. If he drips, he would have to drip approximately 2 drops every 5-10 inhales. I know you are overwhelmed, but keep plugging away at understanding all this. Clearomizers from Volcano. Clearomizers from Clouds of Vapor. Both show being in stock.

Yellow, I don't know if this has come up as yet but get him enough juice so he doesn't run out and have to wait for another delivery.

A lot of people here (like me) seem to go through approx 3ml of juice/day, some more, some less, but 3ml appears common. So I allow approx 20ml/week and in the beginning I always made sure I had at least 2 weeks supply.

Those look like a really good mod & i'm guessing they don't run dry very often.

No, and with her dad being such a heavy smoker, I don't know if he'll want to fool with the batteries and charging them. I've already gone from the 510 to the eGo and now I want to keep it simple and not have to fool with changing carts or cartos or charging batteries. It looks nothing like a cigarette. I personally don't care if it looks like a gorilla with bananas hanging off it's arms. I want the ease that I had when I had a 2 1/2 to 3 PAD habit.

 That would be an interesting-looking one!

Terminology -

atomizer (aka atty) and cartridge (aka cart) are parts of a 3-piece ecig. Carts are just plastic and stuffing.

cartomizer is a combined cart and atomizer (the atomizer is inside) and used on a 2-piece ecig

Carts are generally easier and quicker to fill but it has to be done more often, sometimes a lot more often to keep the cart flowing well. As long as a cart doesn't get melted or loose it can be reused over and over, the stuffing when old can be replaced with blue fom or other materials, can be washed etc. The atty needs to be kept clean - at the very least blown out into a tissue sometimes and many people clean their atomizer weekly or more often. I swap attys on the weekend (priming the clean one with juice on the bridge before use) and clean the the used one by soaking in clear fairly pure alcohol (I use vodka), next day I scoop some alcohol through it, shake it out then lay to dry.

Cartomizers (aka carto) are a bit harder and longer to fill and it has to be done less often but at least while the carto is still wet. Cartos can be filled 5-14 times - be sure to get soft-tip cartos which are easier to fill correctly (by removing the mouthpiece soft cap - no carto condom method). Certain cartos need a syringe to fill (typically no-stuffing reservoir type cartos)

Try both - your dad may like one or the other. The drag and flavor is different (even between different kinds of cartos, as well as between carts and cartos), and the mindset is a bit different. I am not a plan-ahead person. I don't know what I will feel like vaping, so having to decide ahead of time and fill a carto does not fit with my personality. I decide in the morning what 3 compatible bottles to bring to work and I mix those on the fly in my cart.

Oh and a thought about the Ego - if you think your Dad would want a portable charging case then I am not sure if there is one for XL EGo batteries? Somebody else would know.
