You are correct. I always vape to taste. The wheel actually has 3 markings on it, green, yellow, red. Yellow is midpoint, 4.5V, I forget what the other two are.
If knowing voltage matters to you, then Lavatube is a decent choice within your desired price point; pretty sure NHaler has their version of it for about $80, with two batteries and charger IIRC. For me, I care more about the voltage actually staying where I set it -- the Infinity Pro and Buzz Pro both stay where they are set, right up until it's time to change the batteries (the Provari also does, from what I've heard, a fine PV).
(Buzz Pro and Infinity Pro have the same electronics, and the batteries they use have about the same actual mAh, though they are different form factors.)
