It's closed. No stitches, they used surgical glue. The spay neuter clinic emailed me back and said it is probably ok since it's clear but he shouldn't lick it. &$^%! I had to take the cone off, he was just going wild with it. Gah! I need a kitty co-parent! I am inept! (I would have been a terrible mother!)

Do they not want him to lick it because of the glue? ..Surgical glue? Wow, things have changed. I sticking with 'my wrap a tensor or a t-shirt/cloth around him snugly and pin it up top' suggestion. It worked on mine but ....
And Kitty, human kids are much easier than furry ones. You can just sit on them or stick em in a playpen or hang em upside down until they start giggling and agree to be good. And they're not as slippery (if fully clothed) as a cat.
You're not inept! You da Kitty Mama!

If the collar makes him wild maybe let him go wild until he ready for sleep.

I love that they use the glue now because you dont have to take 'em back to get the stitches out anymore. My vet is a money-hungry corporate-pandering beast that use any routine visit to pile on inordinate amounts of unnecessary products and services to your tab. The return visit after getting animals fixed has always been a favorite of theirs. They know you are done with them and your animal has healed completely, so they attempt to set up all kinds of crap in order to keep you as a customer. #cashfirstanimalslast

That has certainly been my experience of late too. I was lucky before though. We had a vet for over twenty years who was old school. Like a tv country doctor type. He was more likely to say 'nay, that's not necessary' than 'well, we'll have to run some tests...' like the new vets I've met. I think they spend more time in business classes than anything else!

Yah, oftentimes you'll pay more for an animals medical expenses than you would for a human. Because theyre not regulated the way hospitals are. I think that much like the medical system, this will eventually mushroom out of control too and need an overhaul. Theres big $$ to be made from our animals' health. And people know less about their pets health than they do their own - which is a low bar anyways!

Ah but Swer, you're talking to a Canadian here. We don't have to pay when we need medical care.

What I find with the vets is not that there's a big difference in what each one charges but in how many procedures/tests they order. I knew one person whose pet was dying of cancer. Her vet strung he along for six weeks with specialty tests sent to special labs and offers of trying 'new' treatments, etc.. It was disgraceful and heart wrenching. The cat was put down after they spent $6,000 on false hope. Big bucks to made indeed! Disgraceful.

Good Morning & TGIF!!!! :D

We are actually on the road headed to Maine for an extended week-end/short vacation. My boyfriends family is having a mini family reunion, so his parents offered to pay for us to go for a few days. Gonna be a long day in the car tho...14 hr. drive...yuck..but will be nice when we get there, as Maine is beautiful.

Hope you all have a wonderful Friday!!!! :D

Whoa, tyler! MAINE! I've always wanted to go there. I'm excited for you! Have a wonderful time!

Swer, I know what you mean about some of the slick vet hospitals. I used one for my last two loveys, but kitty jr will be going to a humble, friendly neighborhood vet.

kitty jr's wound is not draining this morning, he's not licking it and it looks OK. I know with humans we can get a little buildup of fluid around an incision called a seroma that will drain spontaneously (ask me how I know!*) so I'm hoping it was as inconsequential as that.

FRIDAY! TGIF! PAYDAY! WOO HOO! See you all in a little while!

*nevermind. It was really gross!

Good morning All,

tyleris..Maine is so beautiful! I hope you and your BF have a safe trip and a great time!!

Kitty..glad to hear kittyjr is OK. I'm not sure I should ask how you know that but ... it's a brand new word to me ...
so I'll bite...?

That reminds me of what my mom and grandma used to do to us sometimes...in the morning we'd get a word of the day and by dinner we'd see who could use it the best in a sentence, or slip it into conversation the most...

Have a wonderful day All!!!:)

Have a great trip Tyleris
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Woke up to 49 degrees here in Minnesota. Had to put some socks on, the floors were cold!
Oooooh, I'm so jealous! I can't wait to wear socks! And long sleeves! And to need a blankie on my bed!

I've been to the grocery store already this morning. I picked up a couple of new little toys for kitty jr and he is having a blast. His little belly crisis seems to have passed so it must have been a ruptured little fluid collection. One of his favorite games now is hide and peek. He hides around corners, under an afghan or whatever, and peeks out to see if can see him. Which I can, duh. He's so much fun to watch, I hate leaving him during the week!

Happy Saturday, VVers! :)
