I've been vaping for 6 months, started with and still use an 808 D1 e-cig (after reading many posts I've come to realize this isn't the best one out there but it got me off analogs within one week and I thought I was happy with it until I began reading everyone's posts!) Anyway, my question is where to get a good passthru? I bought one a couple of months ago and it worked for a day or two but seemed weak, then I quit on it for a while and picked it back up 2 weeks later and it will not work at all. Seemed rather cheaply made and flimsy in the first place but I've seen posts about people using passthrus so someone must make a good one that will work for more than a few days? Do you have to buy a PT that is specific to your cartos or are they universal?

I've bought Volcano Magma PTs, 5V 510 PTs (from Madvapes), and KR808D-1 PTs (from litecigusa.net). My favorite is the KR808D-1 (received yesterday). The threads for the KR808D-1 need the KR808D-1 cartos, but the 510 cartos will work, if you have an 808 to 510 adapter. There are adapters for all kinds of threads, so I believe a specific carto will work for any battery, as long as you have the right adapter.

I posted the following two msgs when reviewing the KR808D-1 passthrough yesterday:

A biggie is that a PT generally needs a 2A drive USB source -- not all USB ports have enough drive (it depends on the actual PT operating voltage and the resistance of the atty or cartomizer).
I picked up a 2A USB wall wart -- plenty of power and, just as important, no chance my computer will be fried if the PT shorts.
$10 from WalMart.
Good luck -- love my PTs :)

Ahhh, yes I had my PT plugged into a USB on the front of my computer and it wouldn't work, then I plugged it into a USB on the back of the 'puter and it did work, a little; evidently they put out different amounts of power? But after it quit, it quit, no matter where I plugged it in. I've accepted that my 'puter is a weenie but the "shared" household computer is an ox and the PT didn't work in there, either....plus all of our Ipods and Iphones and such work just fine on the USB ports, just not the PT. I'll try a new PT and a "wall wart"?? I'm guessing that's a wall plug with a USB port?? Eeek, sorry I'm still new at all this! I sure appreciate the help.

Vaporking has a KR808D-1 usb passthrough 5v for 12.99 - if it is important to you to have the passthrough match your cartos - you will need a wall adapter that is strong enough though - I bought my wall adapter at mad vipes but vaporking has them also for around $10

KR808D-1 or DSE901 Automatic USB Passthrough matte black

PS - I just looked further and they have a manual one for 14.99 - I would go with the manual

Gaborger, I'm going to look at Madvapes, too, since a couple people have mentioned it...Worth a shot.

Kellogg, just placed an order from Vapor4Life and didn't think to look at the PTs, hate paying shipping twice in 24 hours but I'll look at theirs, too. I'm happy with my 808, too, but after reading thru some posts on the forum it makes me wonder if I'm missing something great? Seems that most people don't have the 808, there are more Egos, 901s, 510s, all confusing to me, but again, the one I've got has kept me off analog for quite some time with basically zero effort and I've never had a problem with it. I think reading thru everyone's posts makes me wonder if I'm missing out on something extraordinary.

My first PT, a Volcano 510 auto, worked like a champ for a week then quit. I unplugged the cord from the PT unit, used a Q-tip dipped in alcohol (squeeze out excess) to clean the post that plugs into the PT, then swabbed the other end that screws into the atty, and it started working again. Found I had to do that every few days to keep it working. So you might give that a try, Dawn.

Ordered a manual 510 PT (this one) because someone had posted a great video review on it on ECF. It arrived today. Was pretty disappointed because the power cord is so short (my USB port is next to my foot, and I have to bend over to vape!). Worked great for an hour, then all I got was a constantly blinking power button and no power to the atty at all. Emailed the vendor, who did reply promptly that he'd send a replacement asap. We'll see.

I'm coming to the conclusion that all the PTs are probably cheaply made, but I'm not willing to give up just yet.

Nan - You can extend the cable with a USB extension cord, available at computer shops. I bought a couple several years ago at a local computer store for about $5 each. Here's a Google link:

Google

The cables on the KR808D-1 (litecigusa.net) and the 5V 510 (madvapes.com) passthroughs are longer than the Volcano PT cables. They're also much better quality. I've bought all three and had to return three Volcano PTs last week. The Volcano replacement has a longer cable and the quality is better than their old version, but the cable is stiffer, and I probably won't use the Volcano PTs very often. I really like the KR808D-1 passthroughs the best. They're not as harsh as the 5 volt PTs.

Also, it's better to plug PTs into a 2amp AC to USB wall adapter. Madvapes has them for just under $10. My PTs have worked much better and every time, since I started using those wall adapters.

Kushka, can you help me with why would you go with the manual? I don't know much about their differences besides the obvious, push a button or don't. Trying to make an informed decision since my first one pooped out on me in 2 days!

Go with the manual! Juice from the atty or carto won't leak into the end of the battery, which will usually kill the battery. I now have all manual batteries and passthroughs and will never buy an automatic again. It wasn't hard to get used to pushing a button.

Litecigusa.net has KR808D-1 manual passthroughs for $10.95 plus $2 shipping. Madvapes has the 2amp AC to USB wall adapters for just under $10. It's best to use a 2amp wall adapter and NOT plug PTs into the computer USB port. This will give the PT the power it needs to work every time and will prevent damaging your computer's motherboard.

Wall warts will only work like they should for PTs if each connection supports 2amps. I think most wall warts support .5amp. After a lot of research, I've found that the 2amp AC to USB wall adapter from Madvapes.com is the best way to go to plug in passthroughs. They are currently on sale for just under $10 at madvapes. Since I started using this adapter, I've had no problems with any of my PTs. Before that, they would work sometimes and sometimes not (using both the .5amp USB computer port connection and a .5amp wall adapter).

Normally I do plug into the USB wall adapter. Just tried it in my USB port after it quit working to make sure it wasn't my wall adapter that had quit.

I don't have a problem with the length of the Volcano PT cord; was the new PT from Vapor Country that came with the super-short cord.

I'be been looking for a good passthrough as well as it seems like a waste of battery when I am sitting at my desk. I have heard some stories of problems, but hey, I am willing to give it a try.
This is is the one I am checking out: MadVapes 5 Volt 510 Manual USB Passthrough

I recently bought two of the 5V 510 PTs (madvapes) and also two of the KR808D-1 PTs (litecigusa.net). The 5V PT is more harsh, due to the extra power supplied to the cartomizer. I really like the KR808D-1 much better. My throat and inside of my mouth didn't hurt after using the 808 all day and all night yesterday, but I had lots of mouth/throat pain after using the 5V PT for 3 to 4 days. I like the extra vapor and flavor from the 808 PTs, too. I had to buy 808D-1 cartomizers, but I think they are better than the 510 Boge cartomizers. The KR808D-1 cartos have an easier draw, lots more vapor, very good throat hits, and more flavor.
