It's about time someone took this company from the idiots who have been running it into the ground for 20 years. If you make phones for people that look like they were designed by a blind person, things will go wrong.
I'm sure Google will change their fortunes and start making some phones that actually look good.

I wonder how this will affect the radio devision of motorola? There phones are junk, but there walkie talkies and other radio equipment is built like tanks. And yes there ugly IMO but who cares, they can realy take some abuse and keep going like nothing happened. Now if they would just make a phone like they can make a radio... this cheap ... LG optimus s has held up better than any moto phone I have ever had. Even there old nextel phones were shoddy.

I agree that the cosmetics don't effect the usage of the phone, but why always make ugly ... ones when a pretty looking one will sell better? Even going back to stalwarts like the Razr, it looked like a prop from Flash Gordon.

True, but: I had one that spent at least 45 minutes in a toilet bowl (don't ask) before I figured out where it was.......... after it was dried out and sanitized it worked just as it did before..... I always had Motorola phones and never had one die on me, but abandoned them after the Razr because, as you mentioned, their phones are just silly and have nothing to offer any more.

Motorola has a reputation for making products that stand up to military specs. Mud, sand, water, and general abuse are common in a field environment. They also did well in the bluetooth environment. They stand behind their products, also.

Other than being a huge behemoth that has made billions from online advertising in their internet endeavors, what does Google bring to the scene that would make them qualified to run a company such as Motorola without retaining the entire machine intact? It's not like they have people who understand the electronics design and manufacturing world who could bring new life to the company by taking over management.

Motorola is, however, a company that could stand some innovation. They are pretty conservative in their design concepts.
