Google sponsored links keyword ban...?

Please correct me if I'm wrong - try Googling 'electronic cigarette'.

No sponsored links show. So I presume that Google has banned it as keywords in Adwords? So unless you have 'electronic cigarette' in your URL - you lose!

Google will not allow adwords for the keywords electronic cigarette or any other word relating to any tobacco product, if there are ads appearing, it means google just has not picked up on them yet.

Just tried it and PremiumECigarette was the the first sponsored link and Smokeless Wonder was the second one listed...


It must be a regional thing.

I think people are talking about two different things in this thread. The normal hits come up (with Smoking Everywhere at the top as pointed out above), but on the right side of the page where Google puts "sponsored links" there is nothing.

Natural listings are not, generally speaking, influenced by the advertising polices of google. So, Jammi's comments are of course correct. With the sponsored links certain hoops need to be jumped through and advertising of tobacco is banned. We have just, tonight in fact, had our US adverts pulled which is a shame. No doubt I will have to put them back up again shortly. Luckily, we don't rely as much on google adwords as we did a few months back; it is converting at a nice rate though so they will go back on.

The keyword phrase 'electric cigarette' is more popular by some margin than 'electronic cigarette', at least in the UK.

One other point; MSN do not regulate to the same extent as google but the amount of conversions we receive from MSN doesn't really amount to a great deal, possibly 20% of the google adwords conversions? I would have check really

Edit : 20% is still worth it, maybe it's even less, ha.
